Is anybody familiar with a Fame Rosemont stove? It was made by Floyd Wells Company.

I think I have a Floyd Wells catalog - I'll check and see. It might list that stove.

wow, free standing multi pass back pipe radiators. great idea, wonder how well they were received and worked.

the back pipe on my stove is designed to work just that way. it is just one pass from the bottom of the base chamber to the top of the stove just above the original exit collar.

right now the base of the back pipe is 140* and right behind the bypassed upper exit collar it's 200*. 2 ft. further on where it enters the thimble it's 114*. stove body is 445*.

Thanks Randy,
I found it on craigslist yesterday morning
and picked it up from a dealer in New York this afternoon. I was going to drive up yesterday but the roads were pretty bad. I asked the owner if he would hold it until noon today.

In the hour I was there three other people called on it making sure I showed up.

I really like the radiators they made and have to find one or two. I remember running across similar top and bottom castings a few years ago but didn't have a clue what they were.

The stove is very similar to the Ruby Rosemont base heater that another member here owns.
Im wondering if the manufacturer made the basic stove body the same and just changed the back panel and panel under the ash pan to make it a base burner. The model no 20 is recessed and bolted in the casting.

Sure looks like it would be a nice addition to any direct draft stove. I'm sure the insurance company would frown today with the setup in the brochure showing the two floor installation.

And that was long before CO detectors. :D

Binghamton NY. The roads weren't bad but it took me almost 3 hours longer to get back. I got stuck in traffic on 81 and was at a standstill for 2 - 1/2 hours due to a tractor trailer wreck.

The northbound traffic didn't get moving for about 6 hours and was backed up about 15 to 20 miles.

I have been watching Craigslist and did not see that one listed! Good find, it is a nice looking stove.

I have quite a few stove catalogs, including a Reading and a Prizer & Painter, both from Pennsylvania - but unfortunately I do not have a Floyd Wells.

You found a really beautiful, extremely high quality heater. It's wonderful when knowledgeable people get these stoves, instead of them becoming silent ornaments in the corner, or something worse.

Please keep us posted on your progress.

Chris,

Thank You for taking the time to search for one. The owner had it listed as being manufactured by the John M Wolf company. Doing some research it appears Wolf was a sales agent for a number of stove manufacturers. On the back of the stove is a cast plate bearing his name.

The stove has all of its original pins, in all seven doors. The mica retainers are held in with tiny square cut finishing nails.

The ash pan is still in nice shape, as is the shaker handle.

The grates are straight and free .............And best of all ............. It has a really nice cast iron coal magazine. I'm glad the original owners opted for this $ .50 option

The nickel appears nicer in the pictures than it actually is. I'm leaning towards complete replating.

My original plan was to do this one over for my son .................. But guess what? :no2:

Hi Paulie - You snagged a great stove. It's just too back it's direct draft.

I ran a direct draft City Glenwood 12 last season and was not impressed. It really wasted a lot of heat.

Obviously a good (old style) MPD is vital for performance.

Keep posting pictures of your progress and Good Luck!

There is no doubt, I was hoping it was a baseburner. Thanks to the information Randy furnished, I'm searching now for a Rosemont Radiator to go with it.

Found two so far but both are priced much too high. $600 & $700

I'm not really worried about the difference in efficiency since I will only be burning it in the spring and fall to take the chill off before I fire up the stoker.......... Unless I can convince the bride into another chimney. :bop:
I can pull that off if I build her an outside patio kitchen........... and I'm thinking ....... maybe with two extra flues
