With this oversized Victorian crapbox I live in, it is tough to estimate heat losses. This year with my AK180 and exhausting through a central chimney instead of a Powervent, at last I have dialed it in just right. This stove is just fabulous but it took 7 years of experimentation. Tons of power, rock solid temperatures - yeah and this winter is a bruiser. Twin Ultra 2200 filters and the dist, fan just plugged into the wall (don't try that at home but the motor just sounds happier, sorry coaltrol even though I love you). I have reset the high temp cutoff to 155* as that is plenty. Wonderful warm clean air. Ya see, even a blind squirrel finds nuts eventually.

Am I going to see a 30% reduction in coal use as I had hoped? No way! With wind chill temps in the minus 10 to 20 column for too many of the winter days, that just aint going to happen - sigh.

This thing just rocks. :D

What made you switch to venting through the chimney? You used to be pretty vocal about the superiority of power vents.

Another person goes back to manual control and finds peace.

In the cuff season yes but I had constant problems with maintenance that made it not worth it. Plus throwing all that heat away was becoming a burden. I still use a PV in the barn ona Pocono where there is no chimney. This was before this blind squirrel found the nuts. Don't push me on dihydrogen oxide issue just yet but who knows. :D

HUH?
As we know, Dave is a man of few words. Forgive him Larry, after this thread another 10,000 people ordered an AnthrakIng and that left no time for a weekend in the Bahamas. He gets a little grumpy this time of the year. Perhaps the phrase natural exhaust would make him happier. :D
