Post by dukeschuff » Mon. Feb. 09, 2015 2:44 pm

I am working on my burnham woodlander mfb 301. wood on one side oil on other
i am havining an issue with the oil burner. its been stumbling, coughing from time to time. sometimes it keeps running sometimes it trips the lockout. I have changed everything. I have searched everywhere. im about to call a tech! help me lol
carlin 100 crd burner
new filter, screen, nozzel.
elecrodes not new but right where they should be with a good gap
transformer good spark
the oil has been treated for cold weather by me...
the oil line is a single line, runs about 70 ft with the burner being about 7 feet lower than the top of the tank
line has several couplings, all are tight and show no signs of leaking
nozzel is the manufacturers recommended
burner air open 100% as per factory setting
nice flame when its running, no sooting at all

Check the coupling between the motor and pump. A little age and or oil and they give up. It may start and run fine for a bit and then give up. Most are just a tube with a rubber washer on each end. Cheap but a little oil or it dries out and it slips. The fan will run but the pump gives up once the resistance increases.

Oil line might be blocked by sludge or ice.

Put a pressure gauge on the pump (a 100# should do it), there should be a pipe plug on the top for this. It may be a square head or an allen socket plug. If the pump starts to lose pressue just before it quits, it is the coupling. Being fairly old and sitting a lot doesn't help them.

so I havnt had any issues the last 2 days. I tried tightening all my couplings on my oil line they all tightened a little-nothing I would consider an air leak but so far so good. I put a pressure gauge on the pump and it is pegged at 140 when running. idk, fingers crossed

Burner air open 100 percent does not seem right and could be a cause of the problem. 140 pounds pressure is too high, it is over firing.

has been running perfectly, perhaps it was air in the lines.
