Tune Them up !!!
Just like everywhere else this morning it's cold here too!!! With the wind overnight I knew the stoker would struggle to keep up from its basement location. So I tweaked the feed rate last night to get hot coals within about 1/2" of the end of the grates; then tweaked the combustion fan while watching manometer readings in the firebox and flue pipe to maximize flame size without pressurizing the stove. Changed out the distribution fan for a nice clean one to maximize airflow.
The stove sides at the hottest point measured at 675* with flue exhaust at 325*
Worked out OK, temp in the LR is holding at 66*, cooler than normal but the propain furnace hasn't kicked on at all.

145 degrees?! I hope it catches its breath at some point...or you are going to need a good sweater on Sunday.coalkirk wrote: BRRR! That's cold. It's 8 above here this morning. Supposed to be around 0-4 on Sunday morning. Boiler is down to 145 degrees and holding. House is at set point. It struggles with cold AND wind. Glad to hear you are nice and warm there Fred.

4 above this morning , Keystoker runs almost nonstop but maintains good temperature so all is well. I go to work this afternoon to work through the cold weekend. I hope they have good diesel for this cold spell. Gelling up in the yard is one thing, on the road is another.
I hope this crap soon ends because my coal supply is diminishing at record speed this year.

Me too! It's run non=stop today. House still at set point so that's good. Boiler was purchased without adequate consideration of my worst case load. It does fine normally but extreme temps with wind knocks it down. I refuse to wear a sweater in the house! I'd kick the oil boiler on first!Rob R. wrote:145 degrees?! Current temp here is 1. Real feel is -20. Forecast is for -10 tonight.
Got new coal today, currently 78 in my house. I have to keep running downstairs to close the primary draft down, getting too hot in here.
But boy am I happy

It's 3* here this morning, wind howling with gusts to 45 mph. Sadly my poor undersized Harman stoker raised the white flag. I had to kick on the oil boiler. Luckily this kind of weather is not common and she does a good job 99% of the time. If I could go back in a time machine and know what I know now, There would be a classic EFM or Keystoker K6 purring away in my basement. Oh well, you know what they say about hindsight. Hope everyone is warm and comfy this am.

currently - 8 here, real feel has raised to -36(was -41 at 6:15. House was at 66, has taken 2 hours to gain 2 degrees, but I'm gaining on it
The Clayton Furnace and Bit coal is my only heat.

Same here, temp in the LR had dropped to 65 so I ran the furnace to get us back up to 69. I might have to do that three times a year so I don't feel the need to change anything.coalkirk wrote:Luckily this kind of weather is not common and she does a good job 99% of the time.
I was ready to move the Mark III hand fired in place last night as I thought a power outage was going to happen for sure with the power lines coming back here through the state forest....but it never happened!! The wind seems a lot calmer than a couple hours ago, still blowing some, but not the violent gusts we had last night.

I kick my furnace on every couple months so she remembers why I haven't scrapped her. Snow seems to of stopped & that howling wind has died down--I got some drifts down to the barn & right at the main entrance porch--I'll wait to plow & see how much this wind moves the bulk of the snow. Hey John, how ya doin over in Ma???

LOL! Talk about your "contradictions". Or extremes. I guess it could be worse, but I can't see how much. 'less you compare penguin country to "Saudi".SMITTY wrote:My buddy sent me this from Cali ....

Had a mandatory cleanout of the 513 last week, so I think we'll get through this "last" cold front of this season. (There won't be many more, right?) Besides, I'm at the bottom of my 2nd ton, and really don't want to purchase another one. Maybe a few more bags.

6 teeth/6 air on my EFM520 fell short this a/m, -1* outside with Brutal WINDS,inside still were it should be but exchanger fan running way too long. Set up to 7 teeth /7 air , kicking the cold out with coal ! We should have had the Crane 404 running hotter than it was this a/m @ 400*,we cranked it up over 600* to help out till the EFM catches up.
