If it's going to happen there is nothing anyone can do about it except to prepare as well as you can. The good point is that the Great Lakes are almost if not totally solid so there won't be much moisture picked up as there could be. It's the cold & wind that will be brutal we have one day coming up shortly that they now say won't get to zero for the high, we'll send that over just as fast as possible. Just think little league sign up is right around the corner & hopefully the fields won't still be covered with snow.

Last winter here in 'da U.P, eh, we got whacked almost weekly with snow and brutal cold. Sorry, but I'm glad it's somebody else this time and not us!! (Schadenfreude!)

finally able to get on here again after 4 days of HELL (actually... hell might be better )
as most know I'm in Duxbury (between Cape Cod & Boston), couple days ago I awoke to what sounded like an earthquake at 1am only to find a monster tree fell right across the power lines from street to house... which meant my house and the neighbor were the only 2 house to loose power/cable
(I was toasy warm through it all however thanks to coal) but this seemingly endless snowfall and vacant properties im having to plow and shovel is getting frustrating, I cant get to my garage (even if I could put on snow shoes and hike the 200 yards back, I cant open the doors to it because they are cover in a 15' high drift).... Its bad around here.... REAL BAD
the only silver lining... Patriots WON! Mahahahaha

If this storm shapes up it's the moisture coming from the Pacific and the Gulf that will land on the NE, the lakes won't even contribute to this weekend.samhill wrote:The good point is that the Great Lakes are almost if not totally solid so there won't be much moisture picked up as there could be.

That giant hole in the foundation in my basement is plugged with snow now - it's like having insulation in this place ...
I agree with ya Fred - this is the type of winter I remember years back.
Snow is kicking my equipment's ass this year. Broke the winch rope to my plow twice on the Polaris ... and the transmission on my snowblower is totally smoked. Can't even dig into the compacted snowbanks anymore - it just jumps and skips ... Always something!!
Shoveled my porch roof yesterday. 5' deep up there, with about 200 lbs. of ice!

CS, He's got a lot of spruce around his house to block wind & snow plus banking the foundation sure helps keep the heat in
