That's what I was thinking , FF. Too bad I'm not closer, I would like to throw some bituminous coal in it and see what it's capable of.
I bet it's one hell of a heat thrower.

Ah yes, the old "if I was closer"
The style certainly does put out some heat--not the most controllable beast but yep, they do put out the heat:)

I have three donated stoves with the fire pot slots. I saw the comment about sealing up the slots for burning ant coal and having them open for bit.
I haven't had these types of stoves before. What does having the slots in the pot, hey sounds kinda Dr. Sousish...slots in the pot....I digress though.
What do the slots do to the stove performance if they are left open and not sealed up when burning anthracite?

I'm about 25 minutes away from Downers Grove in Frankfort. Would you like to come take a look at it before I throw it up on Craigslist or in the dumpster?

I would like to, but it's 543 miles between you and I. Reverend Larry is a little farther.

Thanx C but that is where my sister & BIL live, I'm in NYS--they are of the WAY overly edumacated group & I doubt either one could figure out which end of a shovel to use.
But again, thanx for the come back:)

Fred, as a retired State worker I could give your sister & BIL a quick tutorial of "proper shovel etiquette". THE HANDLE IS FOR LEANING ON!!!

The slots will give your anthracite too much over fire air. It would be fine with fresh coal but after the fire is going good it would cool your stove down and could even put the fire out if there is too much air. Ive been playing around with over fire air this winter and the difference it can make is a lot more than you would think.

Where did you get your Chubby? do you have any quams with the way you have to shake the grate or the size of the ash trey? those are 2 cons I get from people now and again but the build is excellent -

If you type 'chubby stove' into the search box at the top right on this page, you will get bunches of reading material. You can do that with any topic you are interested in.
