Hey guys , I seem to be having some issues with my grandmothers coal stove. Its Alaska Channing bottom vent. I put in a new feeded system because the old one was getting shot. This year for some reason I keep getting moisture in the hopper. I have covered up half of the air intake hole with tape to see if that helps. It did the trick with the old one. I learned that from a guy that use to be a dealer for Alaska. Any ideas out there?

Check behind slide brick for fly ash buildup.
Do you have excessively wet coal?
Is your stove pipe blocked?
Do you have good draft? you should check this with a manometer,do you have a barometric damper and is it working properly?
Remove Pipe; clean exhaust holes
Make sure there is no coal between hopper and stove, there is a space there and can build up with coal when loading hopper.
any sulfur smell? How old are the grate gaskets?
Do you have co detectors?

Doby is right, please check the above list.

Moisture on the inside of the hopper lid is an indication of not enough chiney draft. By partly covering the combustion blower you are keeping the stoker from overpowering the chimney draft. I suspect the new stoker you installed has a bit more CFM coming out of the combustion blower keeping your previouse block off from doing the trick.

Measuring the draft with a manometer is the only way to know for sure.

Make sure you have CO detectors! The reason the moisture is on the hopper lid is because some of the combustion gas is finding it easier to go out the hopper than the chimney. This will lead to CO biuld up in the house.

Be careful.
