Ya think these sub temps have anything to do with it?

Not only that but you need to make sure that the fines have been emptied under the grate and ensure that the combustion air fan is clean clean clean.

I have an older 140 but its the auger style. On these cold days I have to turn up the dial from 3 to 4 or 5 to maintain good temps.
Where is your unit located. If its in an unheated cellar and you are drawing cold air from the floor this will have an effect on your out put.
I am able to maintain 73* house temp (Momma likes it warm) 3200 sqr ft cape style home with mine..
Check your ash build up in the first bend of your exhaust chimney flue pipe, if its clogging unit wont burn properly..
I am sure others will chime in.

Is your unit a single or dual feed?
If its a single, What is the width of your grate?
Did you change coal suppliers??

What's the house temp--them thar thermometers go bad ya know. Whoops--60* gottcha. Ash build up sounds like the obvious culprit--HOPEFULLY!! Is the fan motor bad or just due??

If the extreme clean out doesn't help boost your temps I thought i'd mention that if you are using wet coal it will not feed as well and the stove temp will suffer.

Also if you are getting into a part of the coal pile that has more fines than normal you will need to adjust your feed rate & air a little to get the heat output you are used to.

Let us know how it turns out and your solution can be added to the knowledge base here for the next guy to try when they are in a similar situation!

don't be too hard on yourself....there is a thread floating around here somewhere from the past with self nominations for dope of the year and your plastic scoop adventure wouldn't make the top ten.....there were some doozies in there!

besides....it was probably ready for a good cleaning anyway, right!

Doozie seen at a pellet burning forum...
Feed troubles eventually lead to finding a center-fire live cartridge/round wedged in hopper bottom outlet during deer season. Fell out of shirt pocket when bending over tending stove.
Kids toys show up in pellet hoppers often because hoppers are low and within kids reach.
