It's a wonderful thing; for the next four years -- at least -- the military will be saluting, playing "Hail to the Chief," and following the orders of President Obama.

And I caution you, and all the rest who talk of "giving him the same respect" that was given Dubya; if you don't rise above it, how will you ever again be able to argue that anybody else, including the kids, should? You'll be lowering yourselves to the same level of "unpatriotic" behavior that has been said of all the "commies" on the left. And your cred will be damaged even more -- if that's possible.

At this point, Bill Maher's view (see "Religulous") makes much more sense to me: by selling their incompatible and exclusive franchises on the unknowable hereafter, organized religions generally do much more harm than good (except when they're involved in "community organizing" ).

True conservatives, like Barry Goldwater, had no patience for the unholy "fusion" of conservatism with religious fanatacism. The former is a legitimate political philosophy, which has been debased by the latter, a movement advocating unconstitutional religious intolerance.

OK you pick it which one, gay marriage or abortion or maybe both. Just so we know where you are coming from, do you think it was a good idea for first graders to go on a field trip & participate in a lesbian wedding ceremony?

Neither is a religious belief. To the extent that you say they are, I say that they fall into an area where there is not consensus among religions, and often not even among people and churches in the same religion.

Besides, the old religious codes (which arose when the church was the means to keep order) have been supplanted by our constitutional system of laws, which are meant to favor no religion over another. In case you've forgotten, our forefathers came here expressly to escape a state beholden to a single church.

Thus, your examples fall into an area where people of different religions can believe and do what they want, but they're not entitled to impose their beliefs by force of law upon those who don't share their views. You want to keep kosher, eat fish on Friday, not own a car, take Sunday off? Fine, you just can't legally impose that on me.

Same for your examples.
