I was going to cast some refractory cement molded to the inside of the fire pot on my round oak cylinder stove. Trying to figure out how much I need to buy. It comes in many different sizes and is sometimes sold by volume and sometimes by weight, including 25 pound, 1/2 gallon, 12 pounds, etc. Note: I can't seem to find any Noxram around here.

https://www.rutland.com/p/13/castable-refractory-cement Web site says 12.5 lb. will cast 12" x 12" x 1 1/2" Figure from there. When figuring any cement job , always buy a little more than you need. Better to have extra left over than be one pound short.

So maybe 25 pounds for a typical fire box?

I just used a little over half a box (I think it was a 50# box) on my 17" pot. I used Plibrico Super F because I could get that at a local boiler company. It is pretty much the same thing as Noxram. The stuff you showed in the photo did not work well, I tried it on my very first stove I refurbished. You really should use the Noxram or Plibrico or get a pourable refractory and make a mold. I could give you the address where I get mine but the shipping cost would be high.Underdog wrote:So maybe 25 pounds for a typical fire box?
