I think that I have had my Hitzer about 14 years now, I do not remember ever using 80 lbs. of coal in 24 hours before. Normally we use 40 lbs. when it is in the teens or just above O°, but woke up yesterday morning to -18° and a high of 3° and this morning to -21°. But the house was still 68° in the morning, and it only cost me about $16.00, I love burning coal!!!

I think after 14 years of coal burning in a hitzer your user name is misleading....
you passed the stage of 'tryingitout' long ago!!
I had to laugh at the $16 comment because I do the same thing...i look at the pounds burned and figure at 11 cents per pound to come up with what it cost to keep warm for the night!

We have the hometown advantage. Here in the middle of coal country its 9 cents a pound.
I cant wait till the wind calms down and it gets back above zero. I like to crack the window open just an inch or so. Especially when the oil truck pulls in to fill up the next door neighbor.

All I know is if my oil finance was running those same 24 hours, with the .83 gph nozzle at over $3.00 a gallon it would be way more the $16.00. I have had my user name awhile, afraid if I change it now I might not remember the new one.
