Hello everyone I just wanted to post a review on the rice coal I just bought from keystone anthracite in Girardville PA. My usual source for rice coal is direnzo but with temperatures as low as they have been and the amount of water in there coal it just wouldn't have been a good mix by the time I drove home with it. The coal from keystone was $185 a ton and so far burns very well. Ash is a tan /red color and is mostly burning to a fine ash and powder. The coal does have some fines and size is not as uniform as direnzo but overall I'm pleased. They load from a covered pile with a small bobcat type loader. Three scoops gave me a ton. Heat output also appears good from my unscientific observation.

I have burned Keystone and Mallard (old UAE site) nut and pea for the last 2 1/2 years. Keystone does have pretty good coal. It is higher in price than Mallard and both seem to burn about the same. It's a toss up for me because the engine doesn't even warm up by the time I get there they are so close for me. Mallard is $15 a ton cheaper. I get 7 buckets a week. My Subaru gets 20 miles per gallon. It's 20 miles round trip. Gas is $2.45 a gallon. My 7 buckets from Mallard runs around $18.00. The same coal from Keystone runs $20.35.

If I have to go to the west for anything I get the coal from Mallard. If I don't I go to Keystone. The difference is a dime a week savings if I go to Mallard.
