I'm going to guess that this morning's minus 17 degrees puts this February into the record books as the coldest Feb ever. Good! Now lock it up & put it away, never to be repeated we hope.

So... come on in. It's warm inside as the black rocks always keep us nice & comfy. The coffee is hot & tea water is ready. Pour yourselves a cup & join us for quick hello. It's been a while since blueberry pancakes have been on the table. Let's make it happen.

I see Leonard Nimoy has passed away. Sad to see him go. He had to have the luckiest life on Earth. He never once applied for a job. He was picked off the street by the producer of Star Trek because of his odd looks and tall ears. He did a good job & after that producers came after him offering jobs. He did live long and prosper. Rest in peace Spock.

OK... tomorrow starts March. Perhaps we can stop this cold winter and get a touch of Spring going. Forward we go!

Mornin everyone.

I too am ready for spring, this cold weather is getting old. Internet is showing +5 this am. Was forecast to be -3.
Getting another ton of coal today to be on the safe side. Better to have too much, than too little. Getting an MRI this am, maybe we can find out what's wrong with me and get it fixed.

Take care and be safe all

Good morning Freddy, were not that cold 1* here according to our new weather station I just picked up but the good old thermo says -4* an the phone says its -6* so I don't know what to trust but I think the new one is going back I don't think its that accurate. I'm just sitting here balancing the checkbook and drinking some new Kona blend coffee and for the $$ its pretty good. Must be a water pump month here, the good old 7.3 needs its second replacement in 340,000 miles the first one lasted 155,000 and the replacement went 185,000 and the coolant tank as well(lots of cracks in the plastic) so I think thats going to be next weekends project.
Yes Freddy thats how I know I'm getting older when I here news of actors and actresses passing that I watch on TV growing up as a kid :( , I know It's only going to get worse as I get older but hell I have seen Obits on kids I went to school with that really put things into prospective. Take care friends, stay warm :) . Keepaeyeonit

Good morning,
-4 here right now. The coldest morning so far was last Monday, -14. Been a rough winter!

So I'm sitting here and I start smelling combustion, I never get odors from the boiler. Then the blower in the oil furnace shuts off. Right away I knew what happened, went in the cellar and shoved coal over the bare auger, it hollowed out a nice opening for itself. Guess I should have checked it last night.

Auger tube was empty, fire was shrinking. No CO reading on the alarm, but it's a nice morning to open a few windows and air the place out.

I hope the MRI finds the problem, Don. Ever had an MRI? They are a bit claustrophobic & noisy. I just keep my eyes shut.

I see I made typo on today's date.... can anyone fix it?

The sun is out, nice, bright, c-c-cold.

A high of 36f expected for us. Brrrrrrr..
The DVC-500s are still heating this old house nicely.
Yeah, we can't wait for this winter to end!
Thanks for the tea and Blueberry Pancakes Freddy, my favorite Breakfast, and on my Birthday! You must've planed that :D With Maple Syrup from F-Fred, it doesn't get any better. I may fry up some Spicey BASS sausage to go with it.

I think Nimoy was my favorite actor on Star trek. He will be missed.

Good luck SWPADon, I know how you feel I've been through X-ray's, ultrasound,CT scan, blood work, and a stress test in the last 3 weeks and so far I'm ok according to them but I know I'm not. I haven't felt good in a month so I think I'm going to get my stomach scoped for next test :( and that doesn't sound fun! good luck to ya!

Good Morning everyone,

We went from 40* yesterday afternoon to a low of 12* plus a wind chill which put us at 9*. I'm ready for winter to be done. I normally don't feel like that but the extreme cold of this year is getting old. DK did some cooking in the Mark II last week. He normally uses his fire pit but didn't want to dig out the snow out of it. We've cooked in the stove before and it works well. We are slowly collecting a variety of cast iron pots and skillets.

I bring the stove down to stove front of 200*. I don't know what temperature that makes the interior but we use the Williamsburg Method of cooking (cook until done) in the stove anyway. DK dug a shallow hole in the coalbed and nestled the pot in it. He also place some red coals on the lid. The pot he used was just a tad small and the egg over ran it but that mess sort of fused with some unburning coal and lifted right out so there was no burning smell. It sure smelled good and if we were without power I'm sure it would smell even better. Next time DK is going to try a stew.

They have forecast us to have a freezing rain/icy event for tomorrow. Give me a break! I hope everyone is well and staying warm. Take care, Lisa

I finally get the full weekend off, and a three day weekend at that! A trip to Sam’s is in order to get some things we buy in bulk and to get my TurboTax so I can file the taxes.

Weatherman is calling for ice and snow tomorrow. Winter is getting old. I noticed teens don’t feel that cold anymore and twenties feels like a heat wave. Winter is getting old and my coal bin is going down at record speed.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Hope everything turns out good for you Don - we'll say a prayer for you. ;)

1 measly degree this morning. So sick of it!! My friends are bailing - headed to FL for good, as soon as it's possible. Can't blame them one bit! Between the weather and our marxist state government, it's tough to decide to try and build a life in this place ...

Managed to get my Polaris up and running, and welded the plow back together again. Still waiting on parts for the snowblower. Geesh ... I order parts from all over the country and they're here quicker than a guy in my own state. People drive me nuts sometimes. Still waiting on the axle, which is on it's way, and the wheels ... who knows wtf is going on with those.

Got the tranny all back together again. I ended up installing 2 new sealed roller bearings on both the input and output shafts. Also installed brand new shift keys and a new collar for them, loaded it up with 2 tubes of J/D Cornhead grease, put some Right Stuff on the bearing outers, and on the case halves and bolted it back together again - this thing should be good to go another 26 years. 8-) One thing I did differently was to pry out the bearing seals on both bearings on the side facing the gears - I figure the corn head grease would do a better job of lubricating them. We'll see if my theory is correct in 20 years. Guess I'll install the tranny today and keep hacking at the wheels on the old axle. They've got to come off eventually!
