Re: computers and Windows OS.
I had windows-based company-issued laptops for over 12 years. The company had an IT department that tracked all the problems encountered, Software, Hardware and Operator error induced..
The hardware was about 20-25%, operator was about 10-15%, and the balance was software.. Yep, Windows and the many different laptop/desktop makers are most of the problem.
I have had an Apple Mac laptop for about 4 years now, and it has not had any problems at all, If I load it up with too many open windows, say like 40 open windows, 15 of which are NEPA forum pages I forgot and reopened, 20 or so Ebay pages, and several others to add to the mix, The laptop does NOT quit, it merely gets slow, I take a look at the number of open windows and can selectively clean house, and the speed returns.
I've only had a few times that I shut down the computer to speed it back up..
The Apple products are VERY GOOD.

My next computer will be an Apple product - I don't care what it costs. There can be no price put on my sanity. So sick and tired of the constant problems.
I don't see how it can be operator induced - all I do is chat on forums, buy parts, and surf the net ...?? If a computer can't handle that, the company should pack it in ... Everything that happens seems to happen after a Windows update. Shut the computer down, and when it reboots, all these mystery issues appear. Drives me friggin nuts.

It was just a theory...just seemed strange that my Windows XP and Windows 7 machines have been so trouble free and yours has given you so many problems. Perhaps it has something to do with the software that came pre-installed on your machine. Mine are business machines, and came with just Windows. I've installed Office, Firefox, and maybe a few other things.SMITTY wrote:I don't see how it can be operator induced
If all you do is browse the web, it might be worth trying MINT Linux on your PC to see how you like it.

I've only had a couple goofy issues with my Windows 7--WHOOPS--except once--oh wait, that was a direct lightning strike!

I've had Apples over the years and they had their share of problems at roughly double the cost of PC machines.SMITTY wrote:My next computer will be an Apple product - I don't care what it costs. There can be no price put on my sanity. So sick and tired of the constant problems.

We've used Windows XP, Vista, and now Windows 7 since it came out on two laptops and several desktops. Melissa has a newer desktop with Windows 8.
The sites you go to may cause some of your problems. Whatever sites she surfed that I didn't, her computers kept getting infected with malware and spyware programs. Neither MacAfee, or later on, Kaspersky, caught them.
I would occasionally download the free trial version of Malwarebytes and that would clean and protect for the one month trial period, but after that expired the problems slowly came back.
Last December, I finally decided to download the full-time Malwarebytes Premium program for both of us. Three machines for $25.00 a year. It found and cleaned out the several hundred malware and spyware programs infecting her machine and she's had no more problems since then.
Before you go throw buckets of money at the problem, you might want to download and try the Malwarebytes free trial version for a month and see if that helps. http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Smitty,
I still use an old Pentium XP machine, only now it is loaded with Linux Mint 10. No upgrades, no virus software, no problems in the last year. AND, it is FREE!!!!!!! And, it works graet. If you have an old XP that you have not put a few bullet holes in, it will load in about 20 minutes.
Cheers
