Hey you might get a pleasant surprise! I can think of all sorts of ways to get heat given a stove as long as not a purist, especially when it is in the 40's and not much needed. Old pallets construction sites fallen trees and branches.

That's one reason why I recommended the big Locke stove. This church is in the country with no near neighbors to complain about wood smoke. The Locke will burn wood, ant coal, bit coal, and heck chunks of anything with a BTU value really. They could use any fuel they want!!

and all the better if they are in and out of the building various days a week and only for protracted amounts of time.

that type of stove is the bomb for them, just hope it's big enough. what do you think the total s.f. of both floors is.

we may be on a double down search for a 524B 200# capacity unit. and if one shows up I will pay to have all the iron recast so we can have patterns for other projects.

Rev,Being Point Blank,And Public,I've felt like a Total Heel for not being able to Help You Monetarily...Period....I've Hated It ! I'm Sure there are many Others Temporarily In The Same Boat.....Why The Public "Come Clean" ? Because it's how I choose to Live, and do "Business". Rest assured Your Ministry is on My Family's List.....I'm not going into Pathetic(To Me Only!) Excuses of why I can't help at this time, but it sure has been going on since Thanksgiving. Please don't get me wrong,as the way I look at You,Your Mrs. And Your Ministry is that You're One Of Jesus's Boots On The Ground Guys Who's Living His Faith By Physically Practicing It ! We give because We Support A Real Guy Like You ! What You've done has been an Act of Faith and Mercy towards Folks who are really up the Creek without a Paddle.....I didn't need a Confessor or a Conscience Clearer,I just figured if I Published This Openly,it may also help some Other Good Folks who may be in My Boat at this time......Thank You For What You Do,And Thank You For "Hitting The Wall" Earlier this Year and Not Giving Up ! :dancing: Carry On,and I Expect To Be Along With You well before This Next Upcoming Heating Season...Again,I Apologize,And A Gracious Thanx !

I'm in the same boat as HB, and feel the same way.

So I'm doing the only thing I can at the moment, which is scour ads to try and find stoves that will work for your ministry. I just hope that it helps.

If they are going to burn wood possibly find a sweep with a good heart to run a brush down their chimney and give it a good look to make sure they are not going to burn the place down. How about seeing if a local stove shop or TSC store will donate a flex brush kit for the residential burners that are using coal might pass around in the summer? If your going to switch them over to coal you have to keep the flock safe as well.

I get it with the no wood burning in a congested village, especially if in a valley. My grand father had asthma and died from it in 1961 so suspect the switch to oil in the late 40's had a lot to do with his sons moving out of the house and two of them in the service one deaf since childhood and the other working for Cortecelli (sp?) mills making parachute cord they needed badly. I doubt he and my grandmother could deal with the coal and ashes alone as she was a very slight build and he had asthma.

I am sure you are aware that burning unseasoned wood is a good way to have a chimney fire and make a bunch of smoke. Most of the coal stoves I have seen don' have a baffle and secondary burn tube to burn all the smoke and gases in the wood and are here referred to as smoke dragons with an efficiency of not much better than 40%.

Ok my sermon of the obvious is over the coffee and doughnuts are in the back. LOL...

Heat and Stove Ministry Note:
She then told me burning wood was not allowed in the borough by ordinance. I know she has gone to people's homes and told them that it was against the ordinance to burn wood in stoves or fireplaces. She did this exact thing with the first lady that we gave a coal stove to. She went to her house at 8 at night and said that neighbors had complained she was burning wood and told her it was against the borough ordinance. She pointed out the only wood she used was to start the coal fire and all was supposedly resolved.
Rev. I apologize for the belated response, but if this issue continues, maybe she could fire her stove on Matchlight charcoal, rather than wood. It's been working very well for me, as the other members have recommended.

Everyone has contributed in ways you cannot imagine. I have sat and pondered more than once where this is going and what is happening. When I offer a stove to a family in need, rest assured I am offering it on behalf of everyone on this forum. This did not start by happenstance. It happened because the good and generous folks on this forum started it and encouraged me to get it running. It was your encouragement that pushed this along. With so many people saying do it I just jumped into the deep end.

Next Saturday I will be going to that church to check out how to set up the Locke. They are not going to burn it full time. The pastor said he will lite it up the night before and then let it burn out. The Kenmore stove will also be going to a family next Saturday that is currently heating with two pellet stoves and can't get the house above 60. He told me he is burning $125 worth a pellets a week!!!

So far we have helped two families get and stay warm in this brutal cold winter that won't die. I use the collective WE when I say that. "We" includes everyone on this forum. The first lady is warm and I saw her this evening. She is smiling now and warm. I also visited the second family and they were happy as clams. I noted it was warm in the house....really warm!!! I looked at the thermometer on the wall and it read 80. I commented about that and the wife just grinned and said "Yeah I know. Ain't it wonderful?"

This next Saturday a third family will start burning coal thanks to everyone on this forum. They will ditch a pellet stove and switch half their house to coal.
