Any 48'or 53' trailer should be long enough to handle 24 tons even with just 2000#/pallet,if you are only getting 22 tons, there shouldn't be any problem at all getting that much even if you spec the 2000#/pallet.

Any extra sons or nephews around? ;)

My Pop used to say he had an 'all-purpose' tool especially designed for manual labor, me. :D

Well it doesn't really matter to us, 18 ton, 20 ton, 22 ton whatever fits on the trailer as long as it's a good deal.

You caught me. 24 pallets in a 48' and 26 in a 53'? Tare weight will determine how much weight they can put on, usually 22.5 tons.

One thing that will change a little if you have more pallets per load is the cost per ton. (more pallets & shrink wrap).

Price is part of it. Getting high quality coal is another. Plus it is really nice to know that you have what you need on-site before the first frost.

Yes that would be nice, knowing that we'll have two winters of coal on site.

I always take the max that the truck can legally haul, otherwise you spend more per ton on trucking.

Are you planning on getting a full load of nut?

I think we're gonna try half and nut and pea, unless it's a hassle then we'll get straight nut.

If you are getting a load of Lehigh, I would just get all nut. The volatile content is less than Kimmel's, and you will have an easier time throttling it down.

I have posted about loads of bagged coal several times in the past, and believe it or not I don't read all of the posts on this forum in real-time. For years I have posted tons of information over and over, and often the people don't listen anyway - so lately I have been less aggressive about providing information. Also, if someone sends me a PM asking for information, I tell them to start a thread so I can reply there and the information is available to others. In fact, I told hotblast that very thing a week ago when he was asking me about stoker boilers...so please knock it off.
