Tell him you'll be glad to take that 520 out of his basement and free up that room for him since he likes his electric so much!

I can't believe this thread is over an hour old and i'm the first to suggest this! :D
My first thought too. He said he doesn't want to sell it. Keeping at as a backup. He has a few radiators he is going to sell me though!

Years ago I had to cut the power to a house for the meter dept.
The guy had a 10.00 light bill for years on a big old house.
He was very crafty, .. filed 2/3 of the pinion worm gear off the meter and reassembled it just like it was never touched.

Always a way to do it  ,

Near me there is a village , two actually , that owns its own electric utility. They buy electricity on the market and sell it to residents at no profit. They have a couple of guys that read the meters and maintain the lines ect. I don't know the exact numbers but at one time we were paying like 14 cents kwh and they were at like 3 cents kwh. I can tell you that everybody over there uses electricity for everything. The state of Montana had a similar utility until some governor sold it off and totally screwed everybody. So I guess what Im saying is that its possible that Dons neighbor maybe speaka da trudt. ;)

Its a small downtown store?
Commercial districts usually have 208 or higher voltage 3 phase power
Maybe he has 3phase power to run the ice cream freezers and drink coolers
3 phase is quite a bit more economical

also consider the dirt and labor differential to care for a resistance fired wet system vs a solid fuel infrastructure
my labor is a cost of business - if I don't need to tend the boiler, I can sell stuff to pay the bills

Kind Regards

Next time I'm in town I will look at the polls to see if there is a 3 phase transformer hanging there. If your going to use electricity to power something 3 phase is the way to go. A whole lot more area under the curve with 3 phase.
