My friend and I got rice from Jeddo, 6 ton total. We been buying it there for 5 years, This year after burning there is so much black in the ashes that we both used a ton more than other years. We know it was a cold winter but at least 2 to 3 times more black in ashes than other years.

Anyone recommend a different place to get coal? Anyone else have rice from Jeddo and have lots of black in your ashes?
Thanks, Stant

HI Stan, I saw that no one has replied to your thread yet so thought I'd make a couple suggestions.. I don't use or ever have used a stoker but, could there be other reasons than the coal being the issue? Maybe changing some setting on the appliance? Or is it possible the grate was clogged with fines causing a less than desirable complete burn of the fuel?

With my hand fed I always had good results with Jeddo. Have not tried it with my new stoker, sorry.

Perhaps the coal is harder than average and burns slower as a result. You might need to adjust the feed or air slightly.

Do a search with in this forum for jeddo and you will see just as Lighting pointed out it needs more air to burn, seems its harder, you would have to read all the posts more closely.than I

In my stoker stoves glen burn also called mallard contracting in the MT Carmel area burns great with good heat but has high ash

I have used jeddo for 5 years, I can open my coal air fan 100% and its the same, I clean my grate and under the grate every year after shutdown, and around Christmas. If you look at the unburnt pieces and break one open there is slate on both sides and a thin layer of coal inside. My buddy has a different stove and his unburnt is as much as mine.

Thanks, Stant

If that is just one ash pan with picture taken immediately after being dumped- yeah it looks excessive. Is the coal burning hot? Are you using a normal amount?

The picture of the coal piece in your hand is a little blurry since the camera seemed to auto focus on the pile behind it. I would sooner think the slate isn't slate but instead a thin layer of hardened ash possibly. All the sizes of coal are ground down from massive chunks of anthracite so I don't understand how a thin layer of slate could wrap around individual small pieces like that. But maybe there is something else going on there. I don't know what you could do to burn it more complete other than what's been suggested already.

Just my two cents worth.. :)

If you are going all the way to the Reading breaker in Wadesville, go 10 minutes farther and try Direnzo, a lot of good posts on them.

The stuff in the pics does not have any ash on them, If you break it there is a thin layer of shiny coal sandwiched by slate I think, I have a ll stove that came with a damper on the combustion motor and It was set at around 50% I even removed it, No help.

Thanks Everyone. Stan

Well I made a 3/16 hole ash shaker, I put 8 inches of ashes from my stove into a 5 gallon bucket, after shakeing it down I had 3 1/2 inches of unburnt coal.

The coal from Jeddo has lots of buckwheat in it so it don't burn through, Checked my sisters bin its the same as mine lots of bigger stuff,

Jeddo coal says rice is 5/16 by 3/16, I have lots that's almost 3/4 inch,

imho they are mixing it to sell more buckwheat, My sisters coal from another place is the same size as mine.

So I will shake every ash pan from now on and save some money

Problem solved.

Ps The recycled coal burned without mixing it with new.

Good Luck, Stant
