At 30 # she'll get relief thru the PRV.

Boiling is a phase change from a liquid to a gas. 212*F at sea level...as pressure rises the boiling point rises also.
Are you running around 12 psi in boiler?
That raises BP up some already from 212*F.
What temps is the water when you hear and see gauge pulses?

I believe the boiling point of water at 12 PSI is about 242 degrees.

It's usually around 175-180 when it does this, could there be air in the boiler I can't get out? I'm running about 10-11 psi.

It is some localized boiling, usually caused by concentrated heat and mineral deposits. My efm does it also when it is running real hard, sounds like boiling water on the stove.

Raise the pressure. Harder for it to boil with higher pressure. I'd take it up 5 PSI and see if it helps.

Sounds like mine. Let it cook and enjoy the heat.

No, but my system is piped different than yours and has quite a bit of flow through the boiler. I also run the pressure 15+.

You can try it and see if it makes any difference.

Alright, I already bumped it today from 10 to 15, but if it's not going to explode or anything I won't worry about it.

It will not explode, rest easy. The noise is called "kettling". Some guys are able to reduce/eliminate it by cleaning/descaling the boiler.

Ok, I have not put any treatment in it yet, maybe it's time to?
