If you are going with a pumped system, I would use a supply and a return header 1.25" to 1.5". With .5" or .75" take offs for each radiator. Here is a video of the headers and some PEX/AL/PEX pipe.
Once you have your radiators placed, you might want to install thermostatic radiator valves on each one. Plumbing them in parallel like this and using the thermostatic radiator valves effectively makes each radiator it's own zone. Here is a video that shows a couple types of radiator valves. It also describes how the Tekmar outdoor reset boiler control works, something to think about when you convert to a stoker boiler.
One of the nice things about using oversized radiators is you can run your boiler temp lower. This will use less coal.

with the size of the radiators I am getting, I am going to be running a water temp of 150-160 through them, I don't know if I will set my boiler at that, or have to get a mixing valve, due to still running the modines in the garage, and the dhw coil.
Dont forget SD, ive still got two 1" ports on my manifolds that are not used...

If you can add onto those manifolds to end up with 6 more supplies and returns, you're in business!
When are we going to see these beauties???

does the pump have to be on 24/7 for these valves to work correctly?StokerDon wrote:Plumbing them in parallel like this and using the thermostatic radiator valves effectively makes each radiator it's own zone.-Don
so I would run a supply and return to each radiator?

why do I need 6 more ports? could I come off each 1", and split it to 3/4" to feed the radiators, say one 1" port for the living room and kitchen, ( 3 radiators total), and the other 1" port for the bed rooms ( 2 radiators).StokerDon wrote:If you can add onto those manifolds to end up with 6 more supplies and returns, you're in business!

Here's the pics from the seller.
there are 6 of them total, 3 that are 26" tall, and 3 that are 20" tall. I believe from the pics they are all 5 tube.
from my calculations, if they are all 5 tube, the BTU rating at 160 degree water temp is, 11,830/ 10,920/ 10,010/ 9,024/ 7,636/ 7,636.

The pump should only run if there is a heat call.hotblast1357 wrote:does the pump have to be on 24/7 for these valves to work correctly?StokerDon wrote:Plumbing them in parallel like this and using the thermostatic radiator valves effectively makes each radiator it's own zone.-Don

The method used in the videos uses one 1/2" PEX from the supply header to each radiator and one 1/2" PEX from each radiator to the return manifold. So you need as many supply and return ports in the headers as you have radiators.

It is hard to see in the pics but wow! they are LONG. I counted one at 22 sections and one at 26 sections. At 20" and 26" high, they should fit under windows very well.

Yes there between 40 and 46" long, there going to fit perfectly in each room. They are probably way over sized for the rooms but I'll just be able to run them at cooler temps.

Wow, Nice!
Three 4 tubes, two 5 tubes and a 6 tube. That 6 tube with 22 sections is a heat monster!
