We heat almost exclusively with an Alaska, also using a space heater in a remote bathroom. Approx 1800sqft, 130yr old house. I would recommend the bi-metal thermostat, blower is also an option, I don't have either. In the middle of Feb the stove needs tending every 6-8hrs. See earlier about hopper (good).
More aggressive grates would be preferable as this one won't break up a clinker but with good coal I know my wife and daughter won't dump the fire.
I haven't fired up the oil burner in maybe 3yrs.

Got rid of my Harman hand fed so I can use my Vigilant 1 with the coal hopper conversion kit.
