My trusty coal dealer sends out a mailing to his customers at the end of March, in order to take coal orders for the upcoming heating season. Here in Michigan anthracite is more expensive than in areas around NEPA, but still, not too bad. I'll be paying $305 per pallet/ton (50x40# bags), and I ordered four pallets of nut, so $1220. Will take delivery later in the summer. I used about that much coal this winter just ended. When I think how much propane would have cost me during this very cold winter in 'da U.P. eh, $1200 and change wasn't all that bad.
When I read posts in November/December/Janauary where coal burners lament they can't find any supplies, I suppose now is the time to get your request in to a dealer, so that they will have the coal when you need it.

That is a very good price. I pay more than that and I'm a third the distance.

Thats the same price I pay, and have to order in the spring too, I'm told its cheaper to order then.
A large benefit is it is good and dry by winter when bought in the spring/summer.

I prefer not to pre-order energy .... the market can cause pricing to vary ... although coal does not fluctuate as much as gasoline, I have seen 20% swings ...warminmn wrote:Thats the same price I pay, and have to order in the spring too, I'm told its cheaper to order then.

Commodities do not always increase in price ... sometimes they go down.

You pays yer money, and ya seez yer show,Dennis ! Good Job! With the distance you live and operate away from NEPA,it's a touch different for Folks like You and I. We've seen the difficulties in Supply,as You've originally stated. Bought,Paid For and On Site guarantee that You've got heat when others may not....It's now Your Coal !

There is no fluctuating when you are 1000 miles from the supply and no other dealers close by. If I lived within range of the mines, or several dealers, then yes I might wait. You are lucky to have options.davidmcbeth3 wrote:I prefer not to pre-order energy .... the market can cause pricing to vary ... although coal does not fluctuate as much as gasoline, I have seen 20% swings ...warminmn wrote:Thats the same price I pay, and have to order in the spring too, I'm told its cheaper to order then.

That is a fair price, I payed 295/ton for this winters blaschak. There's no better feeling than having your winters coal on hand, especially when friends talk about having to go cut and split and stack wood lol I know u burn wood also just like I do sometimes when the time is right, but it's not like burning 20-30 face cords a winter! Lol

I heat with wood also, but only on those days in the fall and spring where I don't need the intense heat of coal! But when it's 35 and 45 below zero here in 'da U.P. eh, it sure is nice to have a 72degF house temp thanks to those glowing black diamonds!!!!hotblast1357 wrote:That is a fair price, I payed 295/ton for this winters blaschak. For four tons of nut coal the price per ton is $280.00 (just coal) ..... this is lower than their pricing in Sept. 2014 if I recall correctly.

I couldn't find the price on their website. It does state the coal bags have a convenient handle, anybody ever see this?
