It is time for spring cleaning and looking for some ideas. After 6 months of burning coal I am seeing a bit of ash in odd places I don't normally have to clean and assume fly ash from the occasional mistake while shaking loading etc. Some on walls woodwork tops of baseboard heaters not much but there so thinking what I am seeing is a percentage of what is there.
I have a large Honeywell portable air filter fan combination so one solution close the stove room and let it run a few hours to see what it picks up or makes worse. Another wait for a warmer day and open 2 windows with an exhaust fan in one and start dusting to see it can just be blown out. I know next year I have to use what I have learned this year for clean stove tending to minimize this but this spring has to be dealt with too.
Any ideas welcome as part of the plan for the future might include selling this house by the water with high cost of living and me getting into my 60's wanting to work less. So getting it *censored* and span perfect part of the plan too.

Nothin but elbow grease is what you're down to DD--they haven't invented much to take the place of that. I can't see that filter fan doin much except takin up time & avoidin the obvious.

ddahlgren , lets face it ... you're not a good house cleaner. Dirt on baseboards? Wait for spring to clean them?

Yeah, wife is talking about that Gray dust on some surfaces...........I said so what, the wood gave us Brown dust Seriously my coal handling has much to be desired. The coal bunker is being built tomorrow. Changed dimensions slightly to save on material costs, now will be 8' square and 5' high. Bunker will give me the ability to wet down portions of coal as I take it out. I plan to keep coal damp on top layer and fully tarped. I have also learned to shake with ash pan door closed and wait a few seconds before opening the door to check how the shake is doing. Hope these little measures will help control the dust and ash.
