Single action I assume? Everyone should have a single action or double action revolver. IMO a single action provides better accuracy even though the rds/min maybe slightly lower. Hit the target is the goal. The weight of the revolver is nice, recoil minimal, time back on target short.SWPaDon wrote:This is my son's Ruger Old Army:
Its still a sweet weapon system. And fun to shoot.
It will not jam like a pistol.
Only issue with the 1858 is the loading (its not a modern design, a cap and ball design - 1858 from that year lol)
For a more modern type I like another Ruger single action ...
Advantage of 1858 is that in many states that don't allow open carry of modern firearms, you can open carry the 1858, and as you can see - it can do the job.

I need to get a few of theses, and belt pouch to hold them in. Load, minus cap, and more shooting between reloadings.http://www.dixiegunworks.com/product_info.php?cPa ... ts_id=4325

I wasn't sure so I checked. It is a single action. It was a gift from his grandfather. The grips were pretty much destroyed when my son got the gun, so we ordered new ones for it. We looked at several different styles, and my son liked those the best because of the wood grain.

Got a woodchuck yesterday morning coming up the hill on my tractor. About 20 yds stood still didn't care I was there. Pulled my carry SA .40 with critical defense ammo and knocked him over. He did not suffer. I guess that was my target practice for the day. It was good to know I could draw and hit a wood chuck pretty quick. Not quite as fast as would be needed in emergency but still pretty quick.
