Does anyone have pex radiant heat between the floor joist that is mounted with the talon clips? How well does it work? I have researched some info and the alluminum heat strips are out of my budget, 1900 dollars for just the plates, it will only cost me about 100 dollars in clips to mount the pex, my flooring is tounge and groove sub-floor, with thin carpet in the living room and bedrooms, and the fake hardwood floor in the kitchen and hall way.

Don't think those clips will radiate much heat at all. :P

If you were happy enough with the FHA of the US Stove's output, then a H/X in the plenum will more than meet your expectations.

I was happy with it because the fan ran constantly because it was only 550 cfm so it kept the house a nice even temp with no swings, but my oil furnace fan is much bigger and it is going to cycle causing swings in heat, and I am not looking forward to that.

Betcha that fan is a 2 or 3 speed, and now running on the highest speed.
Change 1 wire and it can run on lowest or if too slow it can be at medium speed.

I will have to check it out, I could always run lower water temps also.

The key to staple up pex is not the staples or the pipe for that matter, rather its the insulation you put underneath it. R-19 min r-21 is better with a radiant foil side up. Honest...

I replaced standard baseboard on my last house with pretty much what you are looking to do. It was a small house, plywood subfloor, hardwood over top of that. No carpet. If memory serves me, there were three circuits total, with pex run on each side of each floor joist. Fiberglass insulation installed after that, no aluminum plates.

It worked, but I had to run 180* water through it to generate enough heat. I think 120* to 130* is the recommended water temp it this kind of application. It was a lot of work to get rid of some baseboards, and I would not do it again.

Pete

ou must use the heat transfer plates - usually available in 4 foot lengths at the big box stores

Greg didn't believe me till he ran his own tests - then he finished his installation with them
Kind regards
Sting

PS clips only work when you pour over the top of them
