Guys,
I'm dyin to burn Lehigh Anthracite this upcoming heating season 2015/2016.
I'm in for 6 pallets of stove size.
That leaves 12 pallets for the buy ..... I think an 18 pallet TT has an attached crane to off-load the pallets.
I'd be willing to use my property as a staging area to drop off the pallets
I put in a call to Coopersburg bagging co. to get pricing but I know we can do WAY better than any of the retail outlets if we can get our crap together.
PM me or post here if you like.
Perhaps we can get a couple NY members who are "on the way" to join in ?
Or even some CT members for the return leg?
Who's in?

This is the first I have heard of anyone arranging delivery with a truck that can unload the pallets. I suggest you verify that is the case. If they can do it, I'd love to have the contact info of the trucking co.

IIRC Rob, the gentleman @ Coopersburg informed me last spring, that 18 pallet TT's had this capability if the customer required it. It's not the piggybacked forklift, but some type of attached crane. Although I've never seen one, my guess is it's not unlike a building materials (lumber, roofing, etc) delivery rig.

To OP, I would take 5 tons ... (price OK of course ---- nut coal) .. would need to be able to be transported via hand jack or short electrical jack, not fork truck (too tall)
Delivery in late September ...

I'd love to do this, but that would mean a LONG haul for me with 7.2 tons on my 4 ton trailer being pulled by a truck with less than 4 ton towing capacity on MA roadways. That has a night in jail written all over it. There goes my savings ...
Then of course I'd have to offload by hand ... and then load once again into the basement. 6 pallets I only want to touch ONCE.

I've seen plenty of threads about group buys, but this is the first one I have seen that mentioned a self-unloading truck. The equipment required to unload a TT worth of bagged coal is what often stops people from doing it. A truck that can be unloaded without extra equipment would be a big benefit for some people...but in the case of a co-op you still have the issue of reloading the pallets onto each persons truck or trailer.davidmcbeth3 wrote:Rob, folks try this every year ...Rob R. wrote:This is the first I have heard of anyone arranging delivery with a truck that can unload the pallets. Hopefully you guys can work something out and get some great coal in the process.

Good point ... I assumed that the coal would be delivered to my garage...if not, I'm out.SMITTY wrote:I'd love to do this, but that would mean a LONG haul for me with 7.2 tons on my 4 ton trailer being pulled by a truck with less than 4 ton towing capacity on MA roadways. Scott,
Several of us on the eastside of Mass are interested in a similar venture.
If we were closer we would jump in with ya.
Can you keep us posted on how this shakes out?
Thanks,
Bill

All,
Spoke to Coopersburg today, the truck is available and they are working on pricing for 18 2400 lb skids of Lehigh in stove size dropped to my house. If you all can PM me with a firm skid count needed we can really get things moving. I believe there is a small possibility the driver may make more than one stop to hit different locations. Although this will increase costs.
To try to keep the thread on topic, please PM me if you are genuinely interested.
Thanks for your interest.

Multiple stops means increased hours for the driver, so expect extra costs. If possible, the easiest way is to have a few delivery locations and take a full load at that spot, and so on. You may feel the retailers are making a killing, but I can assure you that it is a convenience more that a money maker. You HAVE TO BE ABLE TO UNLOAD/RELOAD , or it is not worth the aggravation.
Coopersburg is the operation of choice, and coal is of your choosing an/ or his recommendations. Remember, once you send the check, you are committed.....however you will sleep well and laugh when the 'late bloomers' are struggling in Nov and Dec. Unlike pellets, the product won't go bad over time.......

That's another question. I don't think that I am interested at this point. But I don't see how anyone could be genuinely interested at this point given then no costs have been provided to the readers of the thread, no timeline provided or proposed.whistlenut wrote: Multiple stops means increased hours for the driver, so expect extra costs. The original post talked about delivery to CT on the return trip ... so it peaked my interest. So while I'm still interested, more information is needed.
Don't blame a person who is asking questions.

Good news....remember this is Lehigh Anthracite
45,000 lb load, 18 pallets @ 2500lb, stove size.
$357.37 per 2500lb (50x50 lb bags) pallet delivered to zip code 01077 by the crane truck.
This is 14.29 cents per lb, delivered.
8 pallets spoken for so far.
2 pallet minimum buy in.
Please PM soon as the quote is good until 6/1/15, but the sooner the better as fuel prices are trending higher.

If you offer a little more of a break down it would save the guys the time to make the decision.
$286/ton, but sold in 50 bag pallets for easier packaging and shipping.
$7.15 a bag (not sold by the bag, just a comparative cost)
14.3 cents/pound (not sold by the pound, just a comparative cost)
You need to load on your equipment, no loading equipment on site.
Sitting on the ground in Southwick , Mass, west of Springfield, very close to the Conn State Line.
