Well I finished my ginger/lime tea. Hmmmm I'm not used to being up this early. I haven' had pine needle tea in a while. I'm gonna do that. I going outside and harvest some white pine needles. Maybe someone besides my morning doves will be up by the time it is ready.

I got to work on the FIL's lawn tractor the last couple days. He finally bought the new blades he wanted to get prior to me taking off the snow blower and putting on the mower deck. After hooking up the deck I discovered the center spindle was stuck solid. Took it apart and found the upper bearing and cup were filled with gunk and corroded. Cleaned it up and greased it up and its back to cutting real well.

You'd think there would be a grease fitting in the top of the spindle shaft, especially since there is a threaded port for one and a hole halfway down the shaft for it to lube the bearing. Looks like I'll be picking up a few to put on the spindles.

Looks like I am a few days late to the party. Things were pretty crazy at home this weekend. Both my wife and I have long commutes now, so there is even less time to do things during the week. We have made the tough decision to sell our home, so I have been scrambling trying to get it ready for pictures, etc. I am going to burn the rest of the coal I have and shut the EFM down. Unless the next owner of the house wants to buy it, it will probably be coming with me to Vermont.

You will probably love them. There is a restaurant in Vt that has some sort of pork sandwich and with a fried duck egg on top. I have yet to try it, but it sounds dam good.

All my mowers either died or got bogged down this spring. So where can I get a really good bargain? At the local JD dealer ;) who just wanted it off the lot and gave me a 30% discount prior to the spring craziness. 60", 35HP Yanmar, I'm in love this kicks serious a$$. 2007 and 500 light hours and I have my fingers crossed.

500 hrs is nothing for a commercial zero turn. Hydro's often call for a fluid change at 250 hrs, but that is all. I wonder what it was traded against.

WOW CN that thing is friggin sweet! Nice score there - should last you forever. 8-)

One thing I notice with grease fittings on lawn tractor decks - the higher end units have them, but the homeowner H/D & Lowe's specials do not. I just replaced deck bearings last week in an ungreaseable Craftsman 46" deck. When they start getting noisy or have any play whatsoever, you gotta change them ... or else you wipe out a few more parts and quadrouple the repair bill. The blade will eventually catch dirt, bend, crack the cheap cast aluminum mandrel, and bend or break the spindle. If your lucky you can reuse the spindle. See it all the time. Upon removal, usually all 4 bolts will break off, so you need to have those on hand too.

With a commercial z-turn, you have none of those problems .. provided you keep them greased. :)

On that note, I hate to be critical of Richard's forum (because it's the best on the net, bar none), but I must say the search feature here SUCKS. I was trying to find a Coffee post back in '12 when I last worked on my buddy's Harley, in the hopes of joggin' the noggin' on how the hell I got his carburetor off there - can't recall if I took it completely off the intake, or if I just dropped the bowl off the machine. Tryin' to save some time. After looking at it, I think I left the carb bolted up. That should save some time and swearing. Anyway, you'd think, for example, a search for Coffee 5-12-12, or 5-12-2012, or 5/12/12 would at least pull up the post. Nope - I got today's Coffee ... and everything back! Had to flip through 116 pages ... which brings up another suggestion for improvement - being able to enter the page number (even if you don't know where it is) 100 pages ahead would save a TON of time. These are my only forum gripes, I promise. (smile)

:)
Use bing or google put Coffee 5-12-12 coalpail.com in the search
