Hand Fed Coal Stove: Atlanta Stove Works No. 60

Post by mjbaker65 » Mon. May. 18, 2015 2:51 am

Picked up a potbelly stove at a yard sale. Says Atlanta Stove Works 60. Black with nickel plating. Was used in old house, so works. In excellent condition. No cracks, chips or missing parts. Can anyone tell me about the stove, how old it is, and value?

Looks more like a plant stand then anything else. Could just be the pix. Nickel looks like alum. paint . What's the measurements--height, etc.

Welcome to the forum MJ!!! This is a relatively nice starter stove. The Atalanta stove works ran from around 1880 to the 1980's before they went out of business. They made stoves under different labels Sears being a big one. A little pot belly like that was made for quick hot fires and not really designed for long burns without some modifications. Like I said it is good for some tinkering and spot heating a smaller area. Because they were made for so many different labels it's virtually impossible to get an age unless someone can tell you that great grandpa bought in 19 ought something and it's been in the family ever since :D

In the upper right corner there is a search bar. Try typing Atlanta Stove Model 60 and you will get lots of hits. Some relevant, some not. I copied a link that shows the modifications that one person did to an Atlanta 60 a few years back. Happy reading and good luck with your new friend. Don't be shy about asking questions and we love photo's.

Try this link to get started and again, welcome to the forum. I almost forgot I highly recommend that you put a couple of lengths of stove pipe on it OUTSIDE and fire it up outside. That looks like regular paint on that puppy and building a fire WILL cause a nasty smell when that paint starts burning off. Please don't ask how I know this

My Little Potbelly on Anthracite When you go to this link look at the upper right and you will see numbers: click on the number 1 to go to the first page.
