I doubt that very much CS. We have fought wars to have people respect who we are as a Country. Not to bad mouth something as meaningful & sacred as Normandy. If ya don't, and I know this is old school, but--LEAVE if ya got something more to your liking.

It is time to get back to the subject of the thread. It is becoming a shrine to a tasteless post.

For anyone interested, here's a link to stories told by those who were actually there. Truly incredible what they went through, and that they survived that hell to tell about it.

An amazing story is that of the oldest man to land in the first wave on Utah beach. He was 56 years old and his son was landing on Omaha beach.

He was crippled with arthritis and a bad heart and needed a cane to get about, yet he thought his presence was essential to the success of the operation, and in the event it proved to be so. He was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Brig. General Teddy Roosevelt Jr. was the eldest son of the former president of the same name. He was the only General to land on the beaches. He altered the plan when landed a mile away from the correct area and directed supplies, while coordinating the attack. With his calm example gimping up and down the beach under fire he greeted incoming waves raising morale and calming nerves. He was dead within a month of heart failure.

Very Much Agreed....It was what I hoped for when I flagged the initial tasteless post that was not only off-topic,but incendiary. We've had others banned for similar incendiary troll-like behavior....We've survived Pro's like Stockingfull, TVB,Devil 505 and CoalCracker along with others....When Our only Goal in this Thread was to pay Simple Homage to Those that did their Duty on that Fateful Day,an amateur was allowed to smear it. That's not healthy,CS. We have always held Vets here in High Esteem.......The Dead 82 AB Troopers, hanging in their chutes,in and around St. Mere-Eglise Square deserved atleast better than what They received here......How Far,Airborne?-All The Way !
