Chimney Specs and Prices

Chimney Specs and Prices

PostBy: JohnMck On: Mon Mar 10, 2008 11:18 pm

I'm getting ready to install a coal burner in my basement. I was wondering what guage stainless steel pipe i need, and how much it costs. I'm looking at a Leisure Line Pocono. With the forced draft fan, I don't need to worry about the height of the stack.

Gague isn't as important as what grade stainless the pipe is made of. 316 is the best but the safest thing is buy pipe that is rated for coal and guaranteed against corosion. No galvansied metal anywhere that includes the outer casing of the pipe.

Yes, Stainless is always recommended for coal and will last the longest, downside, it can get expensive depending on how much you need (Length and size).

Heres a place online that can give you a general idea of some pricing. You can always chekc your local suppliers too and compare.

It's such a crappy job to perform that you want to use the best materials that you can buy. I used the Ventinox stuff. Masonry would be better. (There are long threads about this in the past you can search on.)
