Well Damn DJ, then you don't fall into the girly stove realm. Got a friend that heats a big old farm house w/ a Yukon set-up w/ great results. And here WH said your blower was a REQUIREMENT--hmmm:)

I am not burning coal right now I have found this stuff does light up quick. I am not sure what the past issues were or why a lot of people dislike it but I think it's pretty cool with coal getting so much bad press (ignorance) that a company steps up and still sells it.Lightning wrote:The coal is damp and it's got some fines but man, it WANTS to burn like right now, after shake and load.
Good stuff!

I've been reading through this thread and I'm sure glad I missed out on all the issues with Tractor Supply coal. I just went up there and ordered 4 tons and when it came, I put it into the basement. Maybe it helps that my brother is a really good friend of the store manager. After I got the last pallet, he told me I'd better make sure I had enough for the winter as they would not get any more after January 1st. But out here in Iowa, I doubt they want to be stuck with it as most people around this part of the country really don't know much about heating this way. The store here has a large warehouse and they were in no rush about me getting it out of there. It actually took me and the kid running the forklift some time to find it back there as it was mixed in with all the pallets of dog food!
My stove really seems like like it well, and I really have to keep the stove damped down or it wants to get the house too warm! I was burning loose coal before but the guy switched from carrying nut, to stove size and it was harder to keep the stove hot with the larger chunks, so this is really working out well for me. Plus, the TSC store is only 2 1/2 miles from my house verses 45 miles for the other guy. I really didn't know what to think of "designer" coal in bags after using the loose stuff for the last 8-10 years and I really don't mind it. But the bagged coal is harder for me to get into the basement. It was a lot easier with a shovel to just scoop it out of the truck bed and into the coal room. I always kept it really wet so dust wasn't much of an issue. One nice thing about the bags is that I can stack it right up to the ceiling and it doesn't put much weight on the inside wall down there. Before, I wouldn't have put much more than 5 tons down there and that's normally more than enough for a season, but this way I can get about 8 down there.
So I asked for two more tons and will get two more before January as it does keep. I really do hope they will carry it now and I'll talk to the store manager about that and see what he thinks. I printed out a picture of this relic using their fuel and they put it on the pallet of rice coal they have sitting by the front door. I might buy a few bags of that to see what it does in this thing mixed with the nut.

I was SHOCKED to see the local TSC is carrying Kimmels! I have hauled coal out of Indiana but it wasn't really convenient. They got a pallet of Rice and a pallet of Nut. Wife and I talked about buying it but this year we have way too much free wood. So it is still debatable. I told her if we bought it, then they would get it next year. Then we could keep stockpiling. We'll see how the finances shake out.

I retired back onto coal as wood is such a pain. The kimmels seems to me to be nice coal but maybe I just don't know different. I am getting great burn times, I tend it twice a day, though I could probably go longer. Gives nice heat, and is just easy. Took me about 45 minutes to make the swap but it lights quick and stays lit.
I love the nice constant heat of coal and my furnace seems to like coal more than wood, which is fine with me! Sadly with temps in the 50s this weekend and next week I'll let the coal die out and swap back to oil

I've burnt Blazchek for years...until this season..started with Blazchek and I find Kimmels better. Less fines.. clean coal..some bags were real wet at first but have dried out or drained. Probably due to Kimmels shipping out fast for TSC orders.Djcoak6071 wrote:I retired back onto coal as wood is such a pain. I was getting raped by the local Blazchek dealers here when just a few miles down south they were much more resonable. Thanks to TSC I don't have to go down south to save money.

I picked up a ton of rice coal today at TSC.They had Kimmels on the floor inside. The manager brought a ton from outside to the back of my truck. It wasn't Kimmels,it was called Miner's Choice. The manager said TSC was using multiple suppliers this year.He didn't know which name brand it came from.It was in nice plastic bags with handles. As the little woman and I were loading it into the back of the truck, she found a shipping paper. It stated the supplier as Reading Anthracite. Not a bad deal.I was driving over 100 miles round trip to pick up Reading for $320 a ton.TSC is about 14 miles round trip from my house.

You paid how much for that coal at TSC ,? or did I miss the price somewhere ? If indeed that is the NEW quality bagged Reading coal, you really got a good deal in my opinion after burning tons of Reading bulk.scoobydoo wrote:I picked up a ton of rice coal today at TSC.They had Kimmels on the floor inside.
