Sometimes the roads are so pitted with potholes and heaved from freezing that it nearly tosses me out of the driver's seat on the bread truck. Maybe the coal doesn't take it so well lol.

And they probably stack it 3 or 4 pallets high crushing several bottom layers of bags.

There is a trick to throwing coal onto a pickup or cement to keep from breaking it up more, with the end of the bag hitting the truck first and not having it land flat. Yes, that can break it up some as well as travelling, but not the difference in burn many here have. Heck my fines ladden reading TSC brand coal takes off like kerosene.... I may be exaggerating some but it really lights and takes off easy, burns great. But mine looks different than Joeq's does. If I had to sift mine it would go on the driveway. I do have a super heavy draft and Im sure that helps.

I know one thing it's all Coal... Anthracite to be exact... I don't see any difference in burn times between Blaschak,TSC of all types. The stove gives good performance per usual.
I do notice I don't have hardly any fines since I stopped burning Blaschak. Burnt that for 9 yrs..

TSC is running low on nut coal in our area. I feel a little let down by this. Knowing I would need a steady source of supply, I spoke with two different people at the store and was told without reservation they would have coal. Just needed a two week notice to get it ordered etc. No problem.
Based on that info, I bought the stove and spent an additional $1200 at their store to purchase the chimney kit and accessories. Imagine how happy I was when I was told they did not have any coal and was not to get anymore this year !!
The local manager is, to his credit, trying to locate coal for me from other stores but, this still puts me in a bind until he gets it in. Why would TSC put their managers in such a spot? They do have all the rice coal in the world and I have even seen that marked down but, nut coal is getting real short in supply here.
I hope to find a more reliable source of supply next year. Someone who is good to their word. Another thing that appears to be in short supply.....

Welcome to the forum, Lucky. Sorry to hear your local TSC doesn't have any more nut coal.
Have you personally tried other TSC stores near you?
Where did you purchase the stove, can they give you sources for coal?
Amish tend to use coal, but they don't advertise, ask around about Amish connections.

Hope this helps

I made the trip to Ashland OH to get the stove. He does carry coal and at a good price but, too far to haul it. I have an Amish friend that burns coal as well, he bought the last of what was available at our next closest TSC store. Trying to get some from another store about sixty mi away. TSC is offering to get it here at their expense. Sounds to me like their market forecast was off and they did not have a good "plan B".

They are new to the coal game. In my area 1st they stocked it everywhere in the country. This year it is only going to stores that it sold well in and the others cant even order it which seems silly. So the closest one for me is 70 miles now. They sold 7 ton to one man last year when they stocked kimmels. This year I think Im the only one who has bought any there probably because of the brand so they will likely stop selling it to.

Amish are always good to buy from but I was short of cash in the spring when they order mine so like you I relied on TSC.

TSC is like most big box stores, they order and sell a lot of stuff as 'seasonal'. I went in for firebrick one year and pipe another year and they were out. I was told both times that those are seasonal items, whatever they had, they had..........try another store.

We ordered in the summer..they send out flyers.. with a pre season order discount.. this is the way to do it... I have done this for 2 seasons..(since they started carrying)...
On a side note...this new coal in quality plastic bags is awesome..don't know who sold it to TSC but man ...it's so much better then any other brands I've used ..including Blaschak.. damp but not wet.. no clunks or sticks.. very consistent.

Just got back from TSC in Stony Point NY. Earlier this year I purchased the no name nut coal in the plastic bags. I'm a rookie with coal but I can say there was definitely some sticks and other debris found in most of the bags. They sold out of the plastic bags and I picked up 20 bags of Kimmels and I ordered 1 ton. I'll let you know what brand comes when I pick it up. Maybe the Kimmels was left over from last year.

It is somewhat normal to have sticks and other small debri in bags of coal. It is tree roots, old lumber, etc. Nothing to worry about there.
