Other Heating: Wishing it was cold enough for coal here....not really

Happy 4th everyone, just passed right thru you all again. Left Sanford, Me on Sun morning and meandered my way to Ballston Lake, NY. Then I took a new route down 87 and across the Allentown on 78. I did this because the roads going up to Maine were unbearable on 81 then 88. No way I was going back that route or do 84 across then 81,(my usual route). Pennsylvania is in hard shape!
On a coal note, I had to tear my boiler down for cleaning and service as my son had neglected it. :( The hopper was a mess, large flakes falling off on the inside. He did not listen to me. I took it off and beat the rust off, hit it with a grinder, and had just a veneer of metal to work with. Full of pinholes..... I then wet it down with an old bottle of Rust-I-Cid I got from an old house. Phosphoric acid. Then I scrubbed it with paint thinner and primed it with supposedly heavy duty Rustoleum primer. Finally, I coated it multiple times with a Urethane paint. Stuff was tacky and thick, didn't want to dry. Thinned it a bit in final coats and it seems to have worked well, time will tell. I also pulled off the galv stovepipe I put on when I bought the boiler, can't remember how many years it been, and it is being replaced with stainless. I must say the galv lasted at least 6 years or more. It was "crunchy" to squeeze so time to go, even though it was still solid. There were other issues to discuss with "the boy" but I ramble on.

Take care over the holiday everyone and get well soon FF.

Kevin
