Plumbing a Holding Tank Into a Boiler

- Other Heating: air source heat pump, oil furnace
Is ther any benefit to having a tank in the system? Say a 40 or 60 gallon? For say a reserve in the dead of winter? Just to give yourself more water volume.

I would expect no benefit . you could Larry to crunch all the #s for ya but 40 to 60 even 80 gal of water isnt enough to level any heating demand curve. Dhw yes, general heating no. You don't have enough HP in your current system? 1200 to 1500 gal is the norm for heat storage...

Ok, I believe I have enough HP, but bigger can't hurt, I have a 60 gallon tank lieing around so I didn't know if I could put it too use.

They are typically used with wood burning appliances that have wild swings in temps due to the fuel. Not much point if you are coal fired.
