I jumped at this CL find, 200 mile round trip, 3:30 am departure, $75 cash. The seller said he was the original purchaser and every thing was there and in good shape. It was all there and in good shape. I asked how many seasons did he burn. He replied he bought it in 1984 and used it 2 seasons with a max of 2 ton per season. I asked how hot he would fire it, he replied 350 to 400. I said very good. I easily lifted the fire pot out in about 30 seconds. Every thing was there and looked good. I got it home and brushed the cob webs off, here are the pictures, I am going to clean it up and burn it this winter. Bottom line is , it was a very good day.

The back wall baffle (removable) blocks some of the exhaust, but it creates a swirl while exhaust enters the baffle from both sides.

Nice score AB! If you want to use a blower Doug Crane of Crane Stoves can answer any and all questions about your stove, or you can simply block the opening and run her quiet. :shh:

That is quite the score. Depending on where you live might want see if DCrane wants to cast up some fire boxes if yours in perfect shape. The molds no longer exist or at least can not be found and a replace costs a really big number.

I used an orbital sander peel/stick 120 grit, and a good stainless wire brush to clean it up, amazing what a can of spray does to make the old and weary , into a young and vibrant stove again. This is almost ready for the great room in the Hilton penthouse.
I was going to remove the window screens, but only 2 screws were removable, the others, I knew any more torque and I would be popping the heads off, and then have to drill and tap, so I decided, if it aint broke , do not fix it. and don't break it trying to....

My wife is the cook,i am the one who tends the stove. It is a good stove to do some cooking on,just takes more watching of the food than a regular stove &/or a coal range would.

Nice paint job, don't forget to fire her up outside to burn off the paint fumes. ;) I think a couple wood fires will work. Keep those window screens, they're not just for looks they protect the glass as well and if by chance you still don't like 'em there are a few 404 owners you could send them to.
