Good Morning Everyone and Happy New Years!

Way back on 10/19/15 I let the Surdiac go out and started up the Koker-lite stoker in the basement as temps were dropping in October and I know the Koker can keep the house at 70 degrees when temps are above 10 degrees F. As stated in the beginning of the thread, the Surdiac is meant for supplement heat and/or eye candy when family wants a fire to look at. The Surdiac will be lit once again tomorrow as the forecast has a low of 3 degrees F without a windchill projected. Time to see what both stoves can do when they are running together :) Ill report back in a few days.

Stay warm, winter is finally here!

Tim

Joe, yes it is, just pull out the one set it on hearth to cool and slide the clean one in. Makes for easy tending.

Hope you can get the g111 up and running this season

Temps are falling fast, real feel 17 °f. Surdiac is running 350° on heat exchanger and just over 100° on flue. I've filled it up and set it for the night. On a side note the k-lite tstat just started calling for heat since mid afternoon(tstat set to 70°). Tonight will test how they both run in unison.

Morning Update

Woke up at 5am to a 74 degree house, real feel 4 degrees OAT. The Surdiac was starting to slow down (275 on heat exchanger), not bad for a 8 hour burn. So with some poking and riddling, stove was ready for the day. Today's projected high will be 13 degrees without a wind chill, and a low of 4 degrees tonight. The K-lite stoker in the basement was running, but was not running hard when I checked it this morning. Both stoves seem to work well in unison, but tonight will be the first real test.

My main goal is to keep the house around 70 degrees without having the K-lite run all out like it did last year.

For now I going to enjoy the bone warming heat of the Surdiac on this winter morning.

Hi,
I'm installing a s.s. chimney today with the intention of adding a Koker Lite to heat my 2200sqft home (20 years old, in upstate new york). I haven't purchased the Koker Lite yet, and wondered what your opinion is of the Lite vs. the regular Koker. I'm hoping to avoid using fuel oil, but I'm also concerned about the Koker Lite running "full throttle" all the time. Any preference between the Lite vs. the regular Koker?
Many thanks! - Matt

Maybe this thread should be titled: The further adventures of Joe's old stove...I never thought I'd be reading about it this year but glad it found a good home and is back on the job. I committed to buy one of these late last season, but when the deal fell through I ended up with a second 715. Perhaps divine intervention, because I probably would have been pushing the 513, and that's no fun for the stove or the tender. Best wishes with your new addition to the household.
