Pentagon cancels release of controversial Iraq report

PostBy: Devil505 On: Thu Mar 13, 2008 2:54 pm

WASHINGTON — The Pentagon on Wednesday canceled plans for broad public release of a study that found no pre-Iraq war link between late Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and the al Qaida terrorist network.
In making their case for invading Iraq in 2002 and 2003, President Bush and his top national security aides claimed that Saddam's regime had ties to Osama bin Laden's al Qaida terrorist network.

But the study, based on more than 600,000 captured documents, including audio and video files, found that while Saddam sponsored terrorism, particularly against opponents of his regime and against Israel, there was no evidence of an al Qaida link.

Spin this!
The Pentagon states "no evidence of operational ties" & I thought we went to war because Iraq had WMD's & violated every UN resolution.

By the way please list the Government agencies you do trust.

I trust any Legislative Branch agency. (Congress controled) I dont trust any Executive Branch agency as they all answer directly to Bush who fires anyone that dares disagree with him.

The world is full of bad bad men...... They aren't worth the lives of our brave soldiers if they aren't a direct threat to the US. (& regardless of Bush/Cheney's spin & downright lies, Saddam posed no direct threat to the US that any intelligent President would have ever wasted American GI's lives to thwart.)

Would that be the Congress with a 22 % approval rating? Never thought I'd meet someone that approves Congresses job on a coal forum.

I'm not talking about the Congress itself but you asked what agency's I trusted. I trust the GAO (Government Accounting Office) that answers only to Congress. (& always is at marked variance to the figures dreamt up by Bush's Executive Branch)

So you trust agencies that have to answer to a part of the Government with a 78 % disapproval rating? Just want to get it straight.

I trust agencies that are truthful & not bound to parrot White House spin under threat of losing their job. The GAO has always been truthful. Approval rating has no importance except to politicians running for office or trying to save their hides. (The GAO is made up mainly of career, non-politcal government investigators who care nothing about Approval Ratimngs & do a pretty good job. I have known quite a few)

Would you have been willing to trade your life or the life of your brother, son...any close relative for that of Saddam Hussein?
