Good evening Guys,
I have two EFM 520 boilers that I am going to clean my self this year to save money. One is a 1954 Highboy and one is a 1968 520 regular round door. Does anyone know what size brush I should order to clean the tubes and inside of the fire box? Link on eBay or just the specs would be great.

Thanks again,
Glenn

Glenn,

Any nice long thin brush will work on the 520 plate boiler. I don't know what you would use on the tube boiler.

Good luck neighbor!

Sorry, they are both plate steel boilers. What so meant by tubes was the heat exchanger tubes in the back of the boiler.

Thanks again,
Glenn

Your highboy is a "tube" boiler. The tubes are 15 3/4" long IIRC.

I'm not an expert on EFM's but from what I have read, the heat exchangers on boilers before 1962 were tubes. Post 1962 they are plates. You stated your Hi Boy is a 1954 so I assumed it is a tube boiler.

For the Highboy I think the brush you want is called a "boiler tube brush", which normally has stiff metal tines and a threaded center shaft so that with a coupling it can be attached to a handle of appropriate length. I haven't seen a Highboy recently but you would want the diameter of the brush to correspond to the ID of the tubes.

Spoke to EFM dealer this evening. Recommended what I had listed above.

Thanks again,
Glenn
