Dear members,
Your words and memories are so wonderful for us to hear. We are overwhelmed by your response. We will share some of your sentiments at the funeral tomorrow. We apologize for not posting the link to the obit in the original message. We could not tell if real names were used here and from his profile, he looked like he was posting anonymously so we tried to honor his privacy that way. In time, we will try to respond to the private messages directly.
Thank you all,
his family

PS - To the member who requested a photo, we may not have a chance to do that. We didn't have many current photos so they need to be scanned.

We will be thinking of you tomorrow. If in the future you should come across a photo you can come back and post it on this thread as it lasts forever. Just make a note of Dougs password and you should always be able to log on. Too if any member has a photo from a meet and greet or any other source , I for one would appreciate being able to place a face to his posts.

thanx
waldo

I just spoke with Hambden Bob who sends his deepest condolences to Doug's family. HB is out in the boonies with ZERO internet access and spotty cell service at best.

HB ask me to post the following for him:

"Doug was a great guy who always helped anyone on NEPA who needed it and my deepest condolences to his family. They don't come any better than Whistlenut and the loss to NEPA Crossroads and our coal burning community is immeasurable. Godspeed Doug. We will NEVER forget you."

Most people do post anonymously however this forum has been around for very long time. A lot of the members have come to know each other pretty well, it's kind of hard not too if you have been posting back and forth for a decade. Doug was one of the most active posters here and a very long time member. He'll be missed by a lot of people.

What a shock!

I Never knew whistlenut (Doug) personally but I sure will miss his posts. He had a way of being candid (but not callous) with just the right touch of humor.

My condolences to those close to him.

Sorry to hear this terrible news. The forum has lost a pillar of experience, knowledge, helpfulness, and wit all at one time. My condolences to all of the family. It is a bit lonely for all today.

Doug's presence on this board brought sunshine, humor and knowledge. His passing casts
a large shadow and reminds us of the precious gifts we have. We weep with his family yet
smile for a life well lived and shared with us. Like most of the older members here, I hope his
jump over the rainbow was quick and painless. May God bless and keep his family strong.

Oh no!! I can't believe I'm seeing this! He just emailed me last week! :( :( :(

Been so busy I haven't been on the forum in a while - maybe 3 days over the course of the entire summer here. I just came on to see what folks are using on here for internet, and I see this in the search results!! I though someone was joking around at first. Oh man this is terrible.

My condolences to his family. I met Doug at the meet n greet where I also met Jim D. who predeceased him. 2 very knowledgeable coal burners gone in the last 4 years. :(

RIP ol' buddy.
