Anyone Here Weld?

Nice welds. Had a couple of youngsters working under me that welded this good! Trouble was they couldn't show up to work regular so they both got separated. Damn shame to waste such talent. Most of us never approach that level of skill. Maybe 50 years ago ( in my dreams! ).

The only time I put a weld down near that good looking was when I was standing in water & mud near knee deep in a downpour everytime I struck an arc I was vibrating so much the weld came out purty. We did have a couple of guys that good & both were X-Navy sub certified, I suckered the one into mirror welding by telling him it required a left hand welder, about half way thru he stopped because he was laughing so hard!

His welds look very nice.
Not to take anything away from him but I work out of the Philadelphia steamfitters local union 420 and see and do welds like that almost every day.
Walking the cup makes it very easy to achieve welds that look like that. Especially using a positioner.
Position welds is what separates the men from the boys!!!

How true a statement! I worked for JCI/ York Process Systems till an early retirement. The position welds were left for a select few of us. Most thought that seniority meant they could pass work they didn't want to do ( or couldn't any longer ) to those of us that would do it. Pretty welds don't necessarily equal x-ray quality welds; But it always helps! It's what you don't see that makes the difference! Suck back, LOF, slag inclusion, LOP, Mismatch, etc.
