Thanks for the pix, Mike ! It's lookin' real good !!!!! Will it be ready for the start of cold weather up your way ?

Did you use the shoe-shine brush, or buff it with a cloth ?

Tomorrow I pound the NoxRam in the fire pot and inventory my nuts and bolts. I have the threaded rods, no springs yet though lol!
I used a brush which really helped in all the raised areas, thanks for the tip. My plan is to have sparkle running as soon as the fire pot cures. My plans are to assemble her in the basement and run it there. the last 5 - 6 yrs my box stove has been running down there blowing hot air into my cold air returns. If sparkle runs smooth I plan to bring it up to the living room and have the Vigilant down in the basement. Hoping to heat without electricity and run 2 stoves that can sip coal.

Mike ... that's sweet!

I love the deep oven under the bonnet.... the huge baseburner chamber in the base casting...,, what appears to be a four leg grate support (very cool) and the really cool secondary air vent in the load door .... looks like spokes on a wheel

The more I see different brands of base burners the more I'm in awe of their design!! Can't wait till you 🔥 it !

Good on you my friend!!

I think you'll be amazed at how she runs. Here are a couple of pics of the "fraternal twin" to yours. Unfortunately, I only was able to burn in her one time. I had the "test-run" in my un-insulated garage with a stub-of-a-stove-pipe (just barely over the roof line).

It was 20 degrees out and had dropped to 13 overnight. At 1pm, I got the barrel temp up to 500, shut her down and let her go. She didn't begin to drop in temperature until 10am the next morning. I was SO impressed that it was hard to watch her leave.

...Also, that will be the last time I restore a stove for anyone as a "nice gesture" but that's a story for a different day.
BTW - they've got it up for sale now but I couldn't attest to the operating condition after they used it for a season.

Mike, does your dump grate (I'm guessing that is what it's called, the part in the middle of the shaker grates) fit the shaker grate? Mine does not. It's too wide for the slot. Almost beginning to wonder if someone, somewhere along the line replaced this one with another from a different stove. Will get some pics on here some day so you can see what I mean.

Hi Bob, my center fork A.K.A. dump grate fits as it should. I checked both the new and old one. does you dump grate have a hole in the end to except a cotter pin?
...give me a minute and I'll get a picture.

Also called a "draw center" grate....if you ever have to go hunting for parts. ;)
