Hi everyone,

Last fall I put a EFM 520. Its a 2005 model

I have this one Problem I cannot figure out. I set my aqua stat to 180 with the deferential at 10 deg. It shuts off fine but it doesn't kick back on til 100 -110 deg then works all the way back to 180. Yes.. Aqua stat has been changed.

Question ~ Where the Aquastat is inserted can that be dirty? Can it be cleaned?

Tony

It sounds like it is not wired properly, or the boiler is overwhelmed with cold water returning from the radiators.

The aquastat well can be removed and cleaned if you wish. Use heat compound or anti seize on the bulb when you reinsert it.

Did this start when you changed aquastats? Or it worked fine for a while and just started goofing up? Does it repeatedly start at the same low or does it wander?

Welcome tnf,

What kind of aquastat do you have? Where is it placed?

If your stoker is not kicking on until the boiler temp gets down to 110 degrees, something is wrong. From the description of your problem, I'm going to guess you are not running a Honeywell triple aquastat right?

If you have the aquastat placed in the piping and not the boiler, it can take time for the aquastat to get cooler water to trip it on.

It is a honeywell single aquastat connected on top of the boiler. When I manually turn the aquastat it turns on and when lowered it turns off. Yes it goes on and off around the same temp 100 to110 area.

Thank you all for the help!

Tony

I can't find anything with that number, are you sure it is correct? Does it look like this?

I don't think its being overwhelmed by water coming back from the rads. It's summer time and I don't think they are using them. :)

Did this start when you changed aquastats or did this one work fine and then start goofing up? There is only about a 30° adjustment available there and you have 70° swing. That isn't Kosher.

Ok, look around for a bigger Honeywell, L8124 or something like that. Should be similar in color but a much larger box.

Page 16 of your EFM 520 manual. The L6006 is an outfire safety switch. Set it where it belongs and use the L1824 to control boiler operating temps.

I wasn't clear on when the issue occurred. Most people don't address these things until the first chilly night in Aug/Sep.

Most EFM's are installed without the L6006 control, it should be maintaining temperature via a triple aquastat.
