I finally broke down and bought a coal trol. The trying to manually keep adjusting the stove and up and down temperature got to me. I know I'll be saving coal usage. I live in central PA and I was wondering if you folks can give me a idea of how much your coal usage dropped once you went to the coal trol. I have a reading Allegany. I average about 5 ton a year to heat. Thanks.

No one can really tell how much coal you will save, if any. What you WILL see is a more stable room temperature.

That's no fun. Put extra knobs and buttons that actually do nothing and ask the wifey to adj the stove w/'em. Tell her its much better afterwards.

I like the Coal-trol's advance features. You can adjust the way it reacts, by tweaking HLF setting "Heat Loss Factor" and you can have settings that just make it really nice a certain time of the day. For example, I have ours crank the stove about 4 A.M. so when my bride goes down early in the morning before she goes to work there is a nice toasty room for her. Than the stove sets back until just before we come from work. Now don't get me wrong this is not a quick demand system we are only talking maybe 3 degrees to 5 degrees, but you can feel it. I like the fact you can lock a hold temp for like when you are out of town for a couple days.
