Picked up the cylinder on Saturday, in the middle of a blizzard. Grand total of $375....not nearly as bad as I expected - new guide, rocker, springs, and rings.

Haven't looked at the cam yet, but I believe we're going to try to button it up tonight. The cylinder only had minor pitting, so I think the rest of the guts are probably OK. We'll try to get a good look before the cylinder goes back on, though.

Can I ask where you sent it out? Most shops today just trash it and make you buy a new one. Most just need a valve, seat and guide.

Actually, our airport has a full service FBO and complete shop/engine rebuild facilities. Poplar Grove, Illinois - C77, http://www.poplargroveairmotive.com. They specialize in a lot of vintage aircraft and engines, and strive to keep the old stuff running.
