Hi all, I have a ds 1600 coal stove. I have an issue with the glass. I have cleaned the glass, but as you can see in the picture
it has a browish tint and looks foggy. The strange thing is the inside and outside of the glass are clean. it seems like the haze is between the glass. both sides of the glass feel smooth.

Unfortunatly--get used to it SM. Hundreds of theories--coal ash with rag, fine sand paper, easy off oven cleaner, etc. It just is what it is.

you aren't going to get that slight tint of amber OFF, it's IN all 3 major makes of stove glass.

pyroceram, neoceram and robax all comment on it's presence in the product.

the haze is on the inside and will clean off.

Rutland glass cleaner works pretty good among other things.

Nope. Oil furnaces never tint up! ;) PS--I think KC meant will NOT clean off. :)

Coal does that to all glass. Cant get away from it. Something in the coal does it. The glass will haze up and even "craze" (spider web like cracks ). Both conditions are normal, harmless and unavoidable. ..

I am one of the picky ones about the glass being clean. Mostly since it sits in my family room, I just bought an extra door -black one for a hitzer 50-93 was like 160.00 with glass & handle ready to stick on. I just switch them out every 3-4 days let it cool and wipe with with windex and so on. Seemed like when I old stove glass hot with ash it hazed up more on me before I bought extra door.

Just food for thought !

I tried several things and ended out liking real fine steel wool soaked in dish soap. Good idea on switching doors as the glass takes a long time to cool down with the door open like I did.

I'm with KingCoal. I use Rutland glass cleaner on my glass. It also has a polish in the cleaner, which helps keep the glass cleaner, longer. If I'm seeing correctly, what's on the inside of your glass should easily come off with Rutland glass cleaner. I don't think KingCoal mis-spoke. Dampen a paper towel. Put a little Rutland glass cleaner on the paper towel. Rub in circular motion as if you were waxing/buffing your car. Then wipe off with another damp paper towel. Give it a try, and let us know your results. Oh, and do this with the glass cool to the touch.

I was thinkin KC meant REALLY on the inside as mine appears to be. I've tried everything from Rutland cleaner, razor blades to real, real fine emery on my orbital. No go. Might just be after 9 yrs, if I was really concerned new glass would be in order.
