During the summer months, is it cheaper to buy coal? This was my first winter with coal and I've been paying $6 per 50lb bag of rice coal. If I can get it cheaper during the summer months, I'm going to stock up when it's 90 degrees out!

It stays pretty much the same around here that I know of. Most are going up due to the delivery costs increasing because of fuel.

I try and get it late Aug/Sept. before the rush, otherwise, you may not get it for a few weeks.

There is usually a price increase in the spring around NE. About $10 @ ton on average.

I guess it would depend on your coal dealer. He may want to sell off the bagged coal to free up space for seasonal items. In which case the sale would be over the next month or so. I had called one dealer about off season discounts. He said that he has a spring discount in April but he only carries rice which doesn't help me at all.

I was talking to a friend of mine in the construction business & he had an architect ask for coal to be used as part of the landscape. :o

Blaschak had a listing for a dealer in SE Michigan,, not too far from me... so I called him, it was a landscape supply company,, carried aggregate, lava-rock, mulch etc... I asked why the anthracite coal?? He said he had quite a few lanscapers that used the 'glittering black' coal as a different accent instead of the black lave-rock.

He wants $280 a ton... and it was nut size only.

There is generally a nice drop at the end of the season around here, as they want to clear out their stock. Last spring I got a bunch of Blaschak for 4.95 a bag and stocked up what I could. Hope to do the same again this year. I call every retailer in the area, every monday to check prices.

It's a small family run part time business, northeast of Gettysburg, PA. Obviously the delivery charges are for local delivery. Be sure to call for open business days and hours. I bought several pickup loads two years ago. Nice people to buy from. They have a truck scale. One of the coals is Reading Brand, don't remember the other.

Some dealers locally do have summer prices. I got a post card from the last place I bought from and they advertised their summer price at $214.00 down from $219.00, and thats pickup. I don't remember what they charge for delivery.
