Just a little FYI up-date. Got a reply from Trevor, saying the grate made it safely, and he's working on them as we ....type.
Will let us know when they're ready for shipment.

So today, Santa came. Bringing tidings of joy. Here's some pics for you viewing pleasure. See if you can spot the "abnormality".
The broken one is my "original" It's not a surprise cause Trevor informed me of it when they were done casting, and did his best to make it right. I'm not sure if it was a casualty of the process, or just carelessness, and some-one dropped it. But what's done is done, and we move on. I guess it must be a tough job to duplicate the original, with all the louvers or slots, there's some slag or flashing that'll need to be ground out, but all in all, I guess they came out OK. I don't have much experience in comparisons, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Now it's time to do some delivering. - Sunny Boy

Nice, Joe.
Too bad about the cracked original, but it can be repaired/glued to use as a pattern in future, if the need arises.
And, there's always going to be some grinding needed on finished castings.
If you look at the video of the tour of the Lodge cast iron cookware factory (page 99), that I posted yesterday in the Cookin' With Coal thread, you'll see that even with the most up-to-date , expensive casting equipment there's still grinding of excess material needing to be done on every piece.

I think what franco is saying is they look like mirror images. If you look in a mirror and raise your right hand, the mirror image in reality is the left hand...should not effect the operation of the stove.joeq wrote:Not sure what you're seeing franco, but it hasn't. Maybe the way it's laid out in the middle photo?

Oh, I think I see what you're seeing. In the photo above, it looks like there's a tail on one end. In reality, the ends are symmetrical. It's just in the positioning. If you look further back at the photos in this thread, you should see it.
