Got My First Ever Delivery of Anthracite Coal!!!
i had a delivery 4 tons bulk this morning came to $240 per ton PLUS $20 delivery per ton from a place called "the coal shop". I think I did well, I was told it was contractors coal which im not 100% sure what that means but he said its much better then the blacksak they sell down the street from me at $360 per ton. im hoping that will cover me for the entire winter, perhaps have some left over. the stove is installed and ready to go and I got my manometer today. my solution for storing the coal 55 gallon drums from work which I got for free. now im just bucketing it over with a 5 gallon pale. I have 5 drums full and quite a bit of the pile left. I have 13 drums but I can get as many as I need. I have to bring them home 1 at a time, they fit in the back of my camaro with the seat folded down.

just be sure to cover the barrel tops................... I stored coal this way in the past and unthinkingly let them get rained in before it got cold and forgot about it.
it's NOT funny trying to chip coal free inside a steel drum.
just sayin'

the barrels are being stored on the porch, which is why I have to bucket the coal into the barrels. the guy said that the coal comes from a mine in the Scranton, pa area. the coal is shiny and appears to be pretty clean. I will take some pics of it before it gets dark.
i would think having the coal on the porch would prevent the barrels from become rain collectors. I always stored my pellets on the porch in the past and we know how those things don't like water

I did a quick search on here and found a couple references to "Coal Contractors" coal and it got favorable reviews. Hope it is the same stuff you have as it seemed to burn well for others and with 4 tons of it you have quite the 'commitment' to it!!
pics of the coal that I had delivered. I think it looks like good stuff but then again I don't know what to look for. it looks like its good and shiny and clean. the only thing I see weird is the occasional small piece of wood. he told me that was normal and is part of the mining process.

It may have been a prior post of yours that I mentioned this, but I cut my barrels in half and then 2 high. Its kind of hard getting coal out of a tall barrel. Thats just my opinion and it may work fine for you how your doing it. And of course if your barrels are missing an end you cant do that.
Its common to have some wood with it. Looks uniform in size and thats good.

As I remember that Keystoker stove uses rice sized coal. Like T, I suspect it is pea/buckwheat sized. Using this guide what sized coal do you think you have.

Again as I remember, Keystoker asks for rice only but perhaps that has changed.
A quarter and a penny for reference. Sorry about the near focus.

Appears to be buckwheat size to me..titleist1 wrote:Is that pea sized? Looks bigger than the rice size I get.
If it is uniform in size that is a good thing, once they are dialed in you shouldn't have to mess with air and feed settings if it is the same size.
