Good morning! Come in, all are welcome, even VW owners...it's OK, it's not your fault. The coffee & tea are hot & well needed as it's 31 degrees outside right now. The sausage & eggs will cool faster than normal, so step right up & get your fill.
Odd year.... our second frost is a freeze. We usually have many frosts before it actually freezes, but up until last week we were still having 85 degree days. I was hoping the warm weather would last another few months. I finally got my backhoe fixed so now (once I find the time) I can fill the coal bin.
Today I am headed to Parkman Maine, a tiny little down 50 miles from here. There's an auction with some odd things. Possibly, probably, the largest collection of electric cars in the state. This ol' guy was an environmentalist and odd ball. He bought & drove about anything electric in the 70'sw & 80's, but never sold a thing. I'll come back & add a link to the auction there's some interesting pics. ( here it is: http://www.auctionzip.com/cgi-bin/photopanel.cgi? ... 0&zip=&kwd ) I doubt I'll buy anything, but there's a Corbin Sparrow up for grabs that would be fun. There's also the sweetheart of the auction, a 1927 Indian motorcycle with sidecar. I'll bet it fetches a pretty penny. The "Reliant" autos in the pics are three wheeled vehicles. I always wanted one. I spoke to the ol fellow 4 or 5 years ago about buying one, but when he found out I burned coal he as much as hung up on me. LOL
Hope you all stay warm & have a smooth weekend.

Mornin everyone.
Great breakfast as usual, Freddy. Sounds like the auction is going to be kinda fun. Seems kind of odd that he would have gotten upset with you over the coal heat, when he was in possession of at least 2 coal stoves . The parlor stove listed looks like a nice one, I hope a member here can snag it.
Take care and be safe all

Good morning Freddy & company how was the almost over week? We're just enjoying one of the last few camping trips left for the season I'm making my very hungover wife a fire roasted bagel sandwich for breakfast
Did you get your hoe running yet Freddy? That looks like a good auction to attend just keep us posted on what some of that stuff goes for. He joy the rest of the week, stay safe, and hug your loved ones.
she said it's the best one yet. I think I'm going to get 3 more tons of coal from my local dealer and that should just about fill the bin( I wish I could have got more from Direnzo) I would rather have it then not. Well Fred, Thanks for the nice breakfast offering but I will only need a cup of coffee. Too much neat hardware in that auction to mix it with food. What I cannot figure out is why a guy with that much lovely metal would ever allow himself to die. Mystery that. Help the old guy out and come home with an unfinished fat project, he would appreciate it. Keep the shop warm and working in the winter, it's the law. Mike

No Freddy, don't buy a Reliant, I had one briefly. The "Reliant" autos in the pics are three wheeled vehicles. I always wanted one.
Morning all....don't worry about that cloud of smog you see outside. It's just me - parking my VW behind the building so nobody from the EPA sees it!
Breakfast sounds good. I will be adding a few scrap boards from summer projects to the height of the coal bunker in the pole barn today and moving a few things out of the way in the dump zone. Finally got my buddy with the dump truck to be available and I am headed to get 8 - 10 ton on Thursday. I will also make sure the tyvek sloped walls on the coal bin are in shape for this year. I will also pick up a couple sections of black flue pipe to swap in, it is looking a little rusted after three years. No hurry on that since I don't plan on lighting up for at least another month.
Been tripping over a bunch of stuff in the workshop for the last two weeks so a trip to the dump is also on the agenda.
Have a great day!

That was pretty funny. On a turn though the available braking surface does increase dramatically.

Morning Freddy and Crossroaders,
Coffee's good, my first cup in a long time. 55 degrees here, going up to 75 degrees.
The VW topic is a little unnerving for me. I have done a little "work" to my diesel truck. The work was completed for the purpose of better efficiency, and it worked. I have a 1 ton 3500 cummins getting over 21 miles to the gallon. I don't blow smoke (black smoke pouring out the exhaust) or have a crazy looking exhaust stack out the back of my truck. But the increase in power is undeniable and the MPG are a bonus. But the VW issue will bring attention to diesel owners. More than the crazy youngsters tearing up the roads in the smoke blowing machines.
Anyone else tweak their diesels?

Hi everyone,
Sorry I missed breakfast, I caught a Subway Turkey Breast and Ham on the way by.
I spent time the last week getting the chimney ready for the Mark I. Last year I just stuck "rock wool" insulation in flue to block the draft. This year I took some cement board I had left over from tiling the bathroom and did a more complete job.
I cut the cement board to fit and then bonded/sealed it to the flue with High Temperature Silicone caulk. To get a tight seal I tied an 8 inch piece of scrape wood to a string, laid it on the top side of the cement board and put the string through a hole in the cement board. I applied the caulk to the cement board, fitted it into place and pulled down on the string. That gave me a tight seal on the flue. I left left 3 inches of wiggle room around the black pipe. I'll fill that with the "Rock Wool" once the pipe gets in. The stove sits off center so I can get behind it without letting the stove go out.
It went real easy just like everyone here said it would. Once again I thank everyone for their help. Next I'll paint and re-install the stoves. We're already feeling the chill here so I'm right on schedule.
I hope everyone has a great weekend. Lisa

Looking good Lisa!
The auction was fun. Steve, I didn't get your message in time, but as it was, I didn't see them auction any books. I missed the first 5 minutes but I doubt they sold then. There was one box of "papers & stuff" that sold for $20. The biggie was of course the '27 Indian. It went for $28,000. Fair deal I guess! The brand new made in India diesel engine sold for $450, the old gas flywheel engines went for about $300. It surprised me that the hot air waterpump went for just over five thousand! I bid on a couple things, but came home empty handed. I wanted to bid on the Corbin Sparrow electric, but it went out of reach at just under 6 grand. Most of the electric cars were old and junky....they went for $300 to $600. The full size John Deer tractors I thought went cheap.... the old rusty one, $500, the two newer ones that ran, $1,200 & $1,700. All in all, a good time, the weather was perfect and it was fun to look at all the stuff he had collected. Almost odd to me that the auction was just 5 or 6 weeks after his death. He would never sell a thing, but the widow didn't waste time to see it all go. Oh, I didn't see how much the coal stoves went for as I got distracted right then, but the wood stoves went for a song! A beautiful Dover stove, $35. Some others, $10, $15.
Headed north today to winterize the camp. See you!

450 for the listers! It's nigh on impossible to get them in now, stupid EPA...
