Welcome to the coffee house & also October. September whizzed by like a eagle in flight & now it's really getting chilly. The hot coffee & tea will make up for it. Come in, have a cup, rest those weary feet. French toast & bacon will give us the energy we need to get some chores done.

RAIN! Man-O-man, did we have some rain. Over 5 inches in just a few hours. I'm thinking that's a lifetime record. It sure washed part of my driveway out. The culvert out back washes out every few years, but this was different. IT didn't wash away much, the driveway next to it did. Well, that was a good excuse to install the new culvert..... which led to getting the lil' John Deer stuck, which led to blowing a hose on the backhoe & wasting $50 of oil and $50 of kitty litter, then breaking the cable on the ATV winch three times. Ohhh, the fun we have.

With no sister in law stopping by to feed animals coffee is getting later & later....if anyone needs it sooner, jump right in, the dorr is always open.

I hope you're all staying warm. Hug your loved ones & forward we go!

It totally amazed me with the amount of rain that hit up your way, just like the rain hitting the Carolina's as we speak.

Unreal.... I hope everyone get's through this weather event ok.

37 degrees here this am with wind, definitely time for coal burning.

Take care and be safe all

Good morning Freddy and friends. Yum good choice in grub this morning Freddy, With that amount of water I'm surprised you didn't ride the See-Doo :o.
Not much going this weekend other then a volleyball game, cousins Birthday party, and try to finish painting(inside) the attached garage. Three more camping trips left in the season and then It's over :( (but it was one of the best so far), Depending on the weather the 2015 match is in sight and getting closer, I have enough coal for this season but the bin isn't full so I'm going to get 2 or 3 more tons sometime this month to top it off and put my mind at ease.
Take it easy Freddy, you have some work to do :P ,Take care be safe and enjoy.

Good morning. Today is apple sauce day. I bought a vintage "Squeezo Strainer" with a hand crank, and plan on making good use of our loaded apple trees this afternoon.

That French Toast and a cuppa sounds real good this cool morning. No coal fire yet mainly because I don't have the coal bought as of this moment, gotta get crackin on it. As far as a "Squeezo" goes you can't go wrong with one .They save so much work and do such a fine job you will never be without one once you use it. Mike

Whelp, unfortunately the heating season has started for me here last night. Couldn't take the 64° house temps a day longer. Seeing that it was 43° out there this morning, it would have been in the high 50's in here by then, especially with the wind we had. Seems like I just shut this damn thing down, and here we are burning again. Getting tired of it all lately ...

What was really discouraging was all the damage just 4-3/4 months of being idle and cold did. I oiled the CRAP out of this thing, AND had a 60w bulb going. Nope - nothing stops rust here. Got 3 tubes with pinhole leaks. The beginning of the end for this 2 year old boiler. Have no choice but to light up and run it, and hope/pray for the best.

Been sick the past week with a chest cold (shocker - get them 5 times a year at least), days are getting shorter, and the weather just plain sucks. Haven't seen sun in days. Hard to keep the chin up when it's like that!

Here's some pics taken after I spent an hour wire wheeling the rust off. Hope you folks have a better week than I ...

An emergency fix for a leaking tube is to pound some newspaper into the tube with a broomstick. The wet paper will not burn and it stops the leak. Postpones having to fix for weeks or longer.

Smitty,

Get yourself 2 quarts of boiler treatment, blow down your boiler pressure and drain about a gallon or so. Remove the PRV and dump the boiler treatment in. The boiler water must be above 140 degrees. That should seal things up.

I use Hercules Boiler Liquid. There are similar products out there. This stuff has saved my A$$ twice in the past year!
